From the Acting Principal

Mr James Millane

Dear Families,

It has been another busy and rewarding fortnight at St Mary’s, with students embracing a wide range of learning, sporting and faith-filled opportunities. From representing the school in Interschool Sport (Years 5 & 6), to developing new skills through our Taekwondo incursions for Prep to Year 4 students, there has been plenty of activity both inside and outside the classroom. We also joined schools across the country in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime (see Around the School), reflected on the importance of National Reconciliation Week (with its own page this week), and came together in prayer at our Middle School Mass. These experiences continue to enrich school life and provide valuable opportunities for our students to learn, grow and connect as a community.

Walk Safely to School Day

It was wonderful to see so many students and families participating in Walk Safely to School Day. The event was a great reminder of the benefits of walking, riding or scooting to school, not only for our physical health and wellbeing but also for the environment and our sense of community. There was a fantastic atmosphere as students arrived at school and we thank the P&F and all the parent volunteers who supported the initiative and helped make it such a positive start to the day.

First Eucharist

Last Sunday, some of our students celebrated the Sacrament of First Eucharist, an important milestone in their faith journey and a special occasion for our school and parish community. It was wonderful to see the students participate with such reverence and joy as they received Holy Communion for the first time. We extend our sincere thanks to Fr Jerome for leading us and to Mrs Mason and Mrs Schultz for the care and dedication they brought to preparing the students for this sacrament and to Mrs Le Hunt for her support on the day. We thank the talented parishioner, Regina who played the organ for the Mass and added to the sense of occasion.  We congratulate all of our candidates and pray that they continue to grow in faith as active members of our parish community.

For online interviews on Wednesday 24th June, upon making your booking you will receive a video conferencing link. At your allocated time, please click the join link and wait for your class teacher to admit entry into the virtual room.

All interviews are strictly 10 minutes only and are an opportunity to discuss with the classroom teacher your child’s progress so far, as well as their future learning needs. The smooth running of our Parent Teacher Interviews relies on all parents keeping to the timetable. If you need more time with a particular teacher, arrange a separate meeting or phone call.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) On School Students with Disability

As stated in the NCCD Guidelines,

“Approved authorities and their schools must notify students and parents, guardians, carers or associates to ensure that all involved in the NCCD are fully aware of the data collection, its purpose, legislative basis, to whom NCCD data will be disclosed, and that

assurance activities may be conducted by the department in relation to the NCCD data (Department of Education 2025, p. 18).”

Please note that our school is currently preparing to complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments at school because of a disability.

Parents can refer to the fact sheets below for further information.

Please refer to the NCCD Portal for translated versions of the document.
