What's Happening In Secondary
News and Information from Secondary
It has been an exciting season for Secondary, with all Year 10 students now returned home from their overseas trips, interstate experiences, local service opportunities, and work experience placements.
The experiences were incredibly varied, yet every student has come away with a next step to consider, whether in their spiritual growth, future pathways, relationships, confidence, or understanding of the world around them. We are looking forward to providing plenty of opportunities for students to share stories, reflections, and highlights with the community over the coming weeks.
We also enjoyed a wonderful Rise and Shine Breakfast with our Year 7 students, parents, and staff. It was a beautiful mild morning and a great opportunity for families to connect, build relationships, and spend time chatting informally with the teachers supporting their children throughout the year. One of the highlights of the morning was a fun data collection activity involving student heights, basketball shots, and other measurable challenges, with the data now being used in upcoming class activities and investigations. Students and parents also enjoyed pancakes, bacon and egg rolls, all cooked and served by a capable and willing group of Year 8 student volunteers, who helped create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

It has also been an exciting week as we begin moving into our new building spaces. What a blessing it is to have additional room for our growing Secondary community, including a dedicated Art room and, most excitingly for many students, a purpose-built kitchen. These spaces will open up new opportunities for creativity, practical learning, and community as we continue to grow.

Our Secondary Athletics Carnival will be held at the Penguin Athletic track on Thursday 28th May, and we couldn’t be more excited! Everything will be ready to go, and we are looking forward to a fantastic day filled with cheering, smiles, and celebrating the achievements of our wonderful Secondary students.
We warmly invite all parents, families, and friends to come along and join in the fun. Please bring a hat and a picnic rug, and settle in to enjoy the day.
DCS Community has organised the Small Brew Coffee Van to help keep staff and parents caffeinated throughout the day. All beverages from Small Brew will be complimentary for parents and staff. Secondary students are welcome to purchase drinks at their own expense.
We are also delighted to once again welcome Rory’s Hot Spuds food van, which will be on site serving meals and cold drinks for parents and staff throughout the day.
In addition, a small student canteen will be available, offering items such as Gatorade, lolly bags, and chocolate bars, with prices ranging from $2.00–$5.00. Both cash and EFTPOS payments will be accepted.

Don’t tell the students… We’ve heard that some students might try to convince their parents to skip Secondary Athletics Day (because apparently parents don't attend secondary events...). But at DCS, we love having our parents involved and partnering with us to make school events special!
So, we’re adding a little extra incentive for parents to jump in on the fun
Come along, dress up in your House colours, and cheer loudly! The top three parents, family or friends who display the best DCS team spirit over the day will walk away with fuel voucher prizes:
$50 for third place
Bring the colour, bring the energy, and be part of the excitement as you cheer our students on. We can’t wait to see you there!
DCS is actively partnering with our colleagues at Leighland Christian School to provide information and experiences that will support our Year 10 students as they consider continuing their education in Years 11 and 12 at Leighland.
Over the course of this year Leighland team members will be visiting DCS to connect with our senior students. And our DCS students will be invited to Leighland activities and events to enhance these connections.
Families exploring Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are strongly encouraged to book a tour at Leighland Christian School for further information.
