NBC Challenge Committee - Activities Report 2024
The NBC Challenge Committee has had a productive and inspiring year, focused on creating impactful opportunities that support our students’ growth, wellbeing, and aspirations. Through diverse programs such as the Wellbeing Camps, Alumni Program, and Scholarship Program, the Committee has worked to build a foundation of support that enhances the educational journey of each NBC student. This year also marked a commitment to NBC’s future through the establishment of a corpus fund, aimed at providing long-term resources. These initiatives demonstrate our ongoing dedication to enriching student experiences and fostering a thriving school community.
Scholarships Program
In alignment with the NBC Scholarship Logic, (Attachment 1), this year the Challenge Committee awarded 25 scholarships to students across four areas: Arts, Sport, Academics, and Technical Skills. These scholarships support Year 7 and 8 students by providing school-based resources and expanding their opportunities in and outside of school. This year’s scholarship breakdown is below. This initiative continues to support our students in pursuing their passions and reaching their potential.

Wellbeing Camps
The NBC Challenge Committee successfully organised three Wellbeing Camps for students in Years 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12, all offered free of charge. These camps focused on developing resilience, a positive mindset, and social-emotional skills in a supportive environment. Feedback and post-camp surveys indicate that students made significant gains in optimism, self-confidence, and peer connections after attending, affirming the value of this initiative in enhancing student wellbeing.
Alumni Program
The NBC Alumni Program continued to make a powerful impact by connecting current students with alumni who have gone on to diverse careers. This program is especially vital at NBC, where building aspirations and a growth mindset is crucial for students from vulnerable backgrounds. Alumni engagement helps students see achievable pathways forward and expands their understanding of career options. Data shows that students feel more inspired and motivated after these interactions, reinforcing the program’s importance. Please see analytics of the 2024 Alumni events to date. (Attachment 2)
Building a Corpus Fund
In 2024, the Challenge Committee resolved to strengthen NBC’s future funding through the development of a corpus fund. This decision will create a sustainable financial foundation, with dividends that will provide NBC students with aspirational and connection-building opportunities for years to come. We are profoundly grateful to our donors, whose generosity has enabled us to establish this consistent stream of funds, ensuring ongoing support for NBC’s programs and initiatives.
