I would like to congratulate our 5th XI and 16A and 16B football teams on last weekend's outstanding performances and now progress to this Saturday’s grand finals. Final games will be played at Macquarie University Fields and everyone is most welcome to come along to show your support. Just a reminder that any students supporting should be dressed in full winter uniform.
Commiserations to our other football teams whose efforts were not rewarded on the day.
Congratulations also go to our Division 1, 1st V tennis team, who finished runners-up to Oakhill last Saturday, bringing another successful tennis season to a close.
To those whose season has come to an end, thank you for your commitment, sportsmanship and efforts throughout the season. Your dedication and hard work have been greatly appreciated.
Finally, I extend my sincere thanks to the parents, grandparents and other family members who generously gave their time to transport students to their games each week and support them from the sidelines. Your encouragement and commitment play an invaluable role in the success of our sporting program.

Basketball
1st V and 2nd V Basketball Update
Preseason training is now underway, and it has been great to see the enthusiasm and commitment from the students, with strong attendance at sessions.
Please note that, due to a number of other events taking place in the Gym this term, some training sessions may be subject to changes in time or day. I appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding as we work through these scheduling challenges.
Information regarding 2nd V training times and arrangements will be shared in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned for further updates.
We are also working in the future of the program and as well, players will be identified by our elite coaches to join the development training program. This will give a select number of players the chance to training with the 1st V as part of their weekly training commitments.
New Partnership for SPX Basketball
We are excited to announce that our Elite Pathway Preseason Training Program will commence next week in partnership with Asensi Elite Training (AET), the College's new basketball coaching partner.
This program has been designed to provide identified players with the opportunity to train in a high-performance environment as they prepare for the upcoming ISA Basketball season. Sessions will focus on skill development, game understanding, decision-making, and the habits required to succeed at the representative school level.
Invitations have now been sent to selected players and their families. We encourage recipients to secure their place as soon as possible. Any positions not taken up will be offered to other identified players within the program.
AET will also play an important role throughout the season, working alongside our coaches and teams to strengthen the overall program. Through their expertise and support, we aim to continue developing our players' skills, deepen their understanding of the game, and raise the standard of basketball across all age groups. This partnership is an exciting step forward as we strive to compete with the strongest basketball programs in the ISA and provide the very best development opportunities for our students.
We are extremely excited about this new partnership with AET and the opportunities it will provide our students as we continue to strengthen and develop the SPX Basketball program. We look forward to seeing the students on court next week.
ISA Basketball 2026/27 Registrations
Clipboard registrations are OPEN
Thank you to the families who have already completed their registration for the upcoming ISA Basketball season. Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.
At this stage, registrations have been slower than anticipated. As we are required to submit and confirm team nominations with the ISA, we ask all families intending to participate to complete their registration as soon as possible.
As outlined in this week's social media post, all Summer Sport registrations are due by Monday 24 August. This deadline is set by the ISA and is necessary for schools to nominate teams and for competition draws to be developed for the upcoming season.
While Clipboard will remain open until Friday 28 August, late registrations may affect our ability to place your son in an ISA team, as team numbers and allocations will already have been submitted. This could see him limited to our Internal Development teams for the 2026/2027 Season.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Important Information
Any Year 7 student who participated in the Term 1 Preseason Competition is not required to register for the upcoming season. All Year 7 students wishing to join are welcome.
SPX will aim to field A-F teams in each age group where numbers permit. If numbers remain low, we will reduce the numbers of teams entered to ISA.
In the 14-17 age range, this is looking a reality at this stage, and could see us as low as 3 ISA teams in some age groups based on the current number of registrations.
In the 13s and 14s age groups, we also run internal development squads for players who are not selected in an ISA team. This may be expanded to the 15’s and 17’s if registrations are not completed by the Monday 24 August due date. All internal development squad games are played at Oxford Falls on Saturday mornings.
13s–17s Grading Information
Please see the draft Basketball Grading Schedule below.
Please note that due to ongoing works in both the SPX Gym and at Oxford Falls, all grading times, dates and venues remain subject to change. Any amendments will be communicated promptly to students and families via the usual school communication channels.
Students are only eligible to attend grading sessions if they have completed their registration through Clipboard.
All grading updates and additional information will also be published on the Basketball section of the Canvas Cocurricular Page. Families are encouraged to monitor Canvas regularly throughout the grading period for the latest information.

Squash
It was the second round of Junior Pennants on the weekend with all the games at Elanora Squash Centre. It was great to see all the boys in action under the one roof. I was impressed to see the players arriving early to warm up and make the most of the morning on the courts. It was a tough round against the Briars teams who showed their usual skill, our teams fought well keeping them honest in each point.
The SPX 5 team of Lance Meng and Jaxon Stanley hit some brilliant shots to get the win, while the SPX 7 narrowly went down to St Andrew's College in a nail biter. Lachlan Chueng played an epic 5 setter securing the win in the initial game, yet the final result didn’t go their way in the second.
All the teams played with spirit and sportsmanship and I’m proud to see the comradery in the SPX Squash team throughout all the games.
If you have any queries or can't make the game please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me on my email sspedding@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.
