The Assumption

5 August is the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. On this day we celebrate Mary being raised, alive in body and in soul, into the glory of Heaven. She continues to pray for us and helps us to come closer to Jesus.

In this painting, we see two parts and two images of Mary. In the bottom half of the painting, we see Mary lying on a bed with Jesus leaning over her. Some people think that she was also surrounded by the apostles. This helps us to think about the last moment of Mary on earth. As soon as Mary’s life on earth was over, she was taken into heaven straight away. In the top part of the picture, she is surrounded by angels and Jesus reaching out to her. Mary said, “With all my heart I praise the Lord, and I am glad because of God my Saviour. God cares for me, his humble servant. From now on, all people will say God has blessed me. God All-Powerful has done great things for me, and his name is holy.

Hail Mary,

full of grace, the Lord is with thee.Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.Holy Mary, Mother of God,pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Family Winter Sleepout

Last Friday at Holy Family, we celebrated the feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. We we then had our second Family Winter Sleepout to raise awareness about the good work of Mary Mac's Place, which is CatholicCare's homelessness services across the Diocese of Broken Bay. We had a guest speaker from Catholiccare and had an experience of "sleeping rough" with a simple meal served to us by the leadership team. We imagined what it would be like to do this every night and then wrote a letter of hope for those who visit Mary Mac's place. Thank you to the families who came and participated in this important experience.
