Careers and Pathways

What a huge start to the year it’s been, with lots going on in Careers & Pathways. Here’s what we’ve been up to and what we have coming up.

Science Gallery

Earlier this term, 50x Year 9 and 10 students had the opportunity to attend Science Gallery. Run by The University of Melbourne, Science Gallery delivers an exciting program of exhibitions and events to connect art, science and innovation. On this excursion, students explored the science of distraction and how this can be both beneficial and detrimental. Students also explored the science of Artificial Intelligence and how it interprets and replicates creativity, with students challenged to stump the AI model and out-wit it. With links to university study pathways, students left the excursion with a better understanding of the pathway and career opportunities open to them.

National Careers Week

In week 4, we celebrated National Careers Week across the school with a range of activities and a whole-school competition. The competition of the week was Match the Teacher. Students from all across the school were invited to match the ECSC teachers to their previous jobs. There were some great head scratchers in there including a Tour Guide in Berlin, a Professional Disney Cosplayer and a White Water Rafting Guide.

A huge congratulation to Devon T (09E) for winning this year's grand prize- a $30 Teen Gift Voucher.

VET Discovery Expo

On Thursday 27th May, our students attended the VET Discovery Expo run by our Local Learning and Employment Network showcasing careers and pathways related to secondary school VET studies. We attended with almost 70 students from Year 10, giving them the opportunity to explore the wide range of VET subjects and pathway options available to them in preparation for 2027 course selections.

More information about the VET Discovery Expo and how it went will be shared in the winter newsletter.

Year 10 Work Experience

We have been working hard with the Year 10 students to prepare them for their work experience placements in Term 2, Week 10.

A huge congratulations to all those students who have secured a placement, however it’s important to remember that students will not be cleared to attend their placement until all compliances have been met. This includes signed arrangement forms and safe@work modules.

We have been working through these in Career & Pathways classes, students are also able to check on their compliance status with their Career & Pathways teachers.

The deadline for new arrangements has now passed, but fear not, students without a work experience and/or those who don’t meet compliance will be engaged in a virtual work experience program for the week. More details will be available closer to the date.
