Student Leadership

International Women's Day

As School Captains and other SRC members we had the opportunity to accept an invite from Mill Park Secondary to attend an International Women’s Day morning tea. With that we met many different student leaders from a number of schools in the surrounding area. The morning was filled with pastries and conversations, it felt like such a great way to celebrate us as not only young women but leaders.

Youth Council

Hi everyone, Hemal here,

Today I’m not talking to you as the college captain of ECSC but rather a City Of Whittelsea Youth Councillor. I was recently honoured to be chosen as a youth councillor amongst 12 other people out of the 200+ applicants.

This position marks the start of my leadership journey in the real world and gives foundation to the changes I wish to see in my community for the people I represent. This is an extremely prestigious opportunity that I have been given and am very much grateful for. As Youth Councillors we are given the responsibility to ensure that we are constantly putting forward youths' perspectives so that the City Of Whittlesea is able to become a place that feels home for all.

Keep an eye out in your letterboxes to receive a copy of  “The Local Scoop” where you can meet all of your Youth Councillors on the front page! The City Of Whittlesea is constantly running events and programs to empower young people to be involved in the community. I will try my best to relay them back to ECSC in order to represent our school at a broader level.

Numeracy Trail Reflection

On the 30th of March, year 11 and 12 VM students participated in a numeracy trail throughout the city, providing an opportunity to apply classroom learning in a practical way and engaging environment. Working collaboratively in groups, students navigated between multiple landmarks and locations using maps, compass directions and everyday problem solving skills.

Throughout the activity, students demonstrate their understanding of location, direction and spatial awareness by following instructions, identifying routes and interpreting maps and surrounding marks. Students also applied their knowledge of angles and positioning while completing a range of challenges designed  to strengthen their numeracy skills in real-world situations.

The numeracy trails encouraged teamwork, communication and independent thinking, which students supported one another to successfully complete each task. The activity provided a valuable opportunity for students to develop their ability to apply numeracy skills in everyday situations.

Overall, the experience was both enjoyable and educational, and students represented the school positively throughout the day.

ECSC’s Meet & Greet

ECSC’s Meet & Greet event was a great success, bringing together students, parents, and teachers in a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. Student tour guides led families around the school, helping them explore the campus and learn more about daily school life and answer questions about extracurriculars such as productions, music, clubs and Student representatives. Different classrooms were set up for each subject area, giving visitors the opportunity to meet teachers, take part in activities, and gain insight into what students will be learning throughout the year. Information sessions were also held to provide important guidance and answer questions, making the event both informative and enjoyable for everyone who attended. We hope our future Year 7 students left feeling excited and confident about becoming a part of our school community, and starting a new chapter of their lives soon!
