Community Engagement

Mother's Day Breakfast
Our beautiful Hall was transformed into a stylish space on Friday morning, all in celebration of the wonderful Mums in our community. All the elements were there to 'nourish' our Mums so that they 'flourish' in their roles as Mums...healthy food, great coffee, the Preps Mother's day song and endless conversation. What a spoil! Huge thanks to Sandy Arthur and Mairin Chevaux, the Year 2 reps whose vision it was and who coordinated this incredible morning. Thanks to the Year 2 team who supported them with the event. To the team of Dads who were the photographers, helped set up, waited on the tables and cleaned up, Dave Crew, Will Cheang, Kenneth Prajoga, Jorge Eckhardt and Matthew Raggatt. It was a very special morning!
Before the breakfast, our Mums spent time visiting their children in their classrooms where more surprises were waiting. Thanks to our staff and students who prepared very thoughtful gifts for their Mums during the visit.
We hope all of our Mums enjoyed the gifts that were purchased by their children at school on Wednesday at the Mother's Day Stall. Thanks to Penny Guerra and Leah Scheggia, Year 4 reps, who coordinated the Mother's Day Stall on behalf of the P & F Committee.
Little Roch Stars Program
We were so excited to welcome a group of little ones to St Roch's on Friday 1 May for the start of the Little Roch Stars Program. There was lots of happy faces as the three to five year old's explored the activities. Miss Allen is very talented not only as a Year 6 teacher but also as an Early Childhood Educator. The MPR was ready for curious minds to enjoy. She will lead this new initiative, Little Roch Stars at St Roch's Program to support the transition of 3 - 5 year old's to school. Please encourage any interested 3 - 5 year old's to join in on Fridays from 8.30am - 9.30am. We look forward to the next session this Friday 15 May at 8.30am.
94th ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students at the Shrine
On Tuesday 5 May, we very delighted to join primary and secondary schools from all over Victoria at the Melbourne Legacy 94th Annual Commemoration Ceremony for Students. Our Year 6 students were immersed in some of the traditions of the military including an inspection of the guard. They watched as the Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria inspected cadets from Melbourne High School and laid a wreath at the eternal flame. Our two school captains, Mia and George were honoured to shake hands with the Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria Professor James Angus AO on his arrival at the Shrine. Afterwards we enjoyed a tour of the Shrine where more stories were shared of Australia's wartime heroes.
Open Morning Tours
We were delighted to showcase our amazing school this morning at our Open Day morning with our Year 6 school leaders. The families were incredibly impressed with the opportunities our students have to 'grow, lead and become'. We look forward to touring other perspective families on Thursday morning. Please come along if you have the chance to see what a special place our school is to belong to, to learn and to grow within!

Chess Club is Back!
The Hall was full of students keen to participate in the free Chess lesson on offer with Phil and Zach from Chess for Schools. Lots of interest was shown and a keen group of students will now join Zach every Wednesday at first break. Our students are impressive chess players and are always willing to encourage each other. Chess Club is open for students in Prep to Year 6 and will operate on Wednesday at 11.00am for eight weeks throughout Term 2. Please consider registering your child in this popular lunchtime club. There are many benefits both academically, socially and emotionally when children play chess.
We welcome a new coach, Zach to St Roch's this term. Registration for St Roch's is now open on the Chess for Schools website and Term 2 registrations are open here:
