Visual Art News

YEAR 1
In Year 1, students explored the colourful artwork of Brazilian artist Romero Britto and created vibrant cat or butterfly artworks inspired by his bold style. They began by learning about Romero Britto's use of bright colours, bold outlines and playful patterns before drawing their chosen animal and dividing it into sections. Students then explored colour schemes and carefully painted each section using watercolours. They added a variety of patterns and textures with oil pastels before experimenting with printing techniques using tools such as cardboard cylinders, corks and finger stampers to create decorative backgrounds. To complete their artworks, students outlined their designs with bold black lines and proudly shared their finished pieces during a class gallery walk. Throughout the unit, students developed their drawing, painting, printing and pattern-making skills while building confidence in discussing their creative choices and appreciating the artwork of others
R U OK? Day – Celebrating Connection 💛
Our school community celebrated R U OK? Day by learning about the importance of checking in with others and showing kindness and care.
Students explored the simple steps involved in an R U OK? conversation:
1. Ask R U OK? – We checked in with someone and asked how they were going.
2. Listen – We listened carefully and gave the person our full attention.
3. Encourage action – We encouraged them to seek support and take positive steps if they were having a difficult time.
4. Check in – We remembered to follow up and let them know we cared.
Students participated in activities that encouraged meaningful conversations, connection and kindness. It was wonderful to see our students thinking about how they could support and look out for the people around them.
R U OK? Day reminded us that a simple conversation can make a difference, and that checking in with others is something we can do any day of the year.
