As we come to the end of a very busy and successful term, it is wonderful to reflect on all that has been achieved across our school. It has been a particularly active sporting term, with many of our students proudly representing our school at a range of events. We are incredibly proud of the number of students who progressed through to the next level, demonstrating not only their skill but also their commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship. Thank you to our staff and families who have supported students to attend these opportunities.

Our students have also completed NAPLAN for another year, approaching the assessments with focus and resilience. We commend them on their positive attitude and effort throughout this period. Across all classrooms, there has been a strong emphasis on quality teaching and learning, with students actively engaged in rich and meaningful learning experiences every day.

We were also fortunate to welcome Rachel from Leeton Library, who visited our K/1/2/3 students for a wonderful superhero-themed session. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, engaging with stories and activities that sparked their imagination and love of reading. A special mention to Chaz, who confidently represented our school by thanking Rachel on behalf of all students – a fantastic example of leadership and respect.

This term has also seen the successful commencement of our PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) approach. PBL is a whole-school framework that explicitly teaches and recognises positive behaviours, helping to create a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment for all students. Each year, our PBL levels are reset, allowing us to re-establish clear expectations with all students and ensure consistency across the school. This “reset” supports both new and returning students to develop a shared understanding of our values and expectations, setting everyone up for success. It has been very pleasing to see how positively students have responded so far. Certificates will be presented at our assembly.

We look forward to celebrating together at our Easter Hat Parade and whole school assembly on Thursday 2 April at 10:30am. This is always a highlight of the term and a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate student creativity and achievement. On Wednesday 25th March, we will be creating our hats at school - items may be brought from home to assist in making our hats unique.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Beecham family for kindly replacing our much-loved chickens. Our new additions are settling in well and have already brought great excitement to our students. We are very grateful for the ongoing support of our school community.

Looking ahead to Term 2, we are excited to launch our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. Students will be building their skipping skills and fitness, with a special showcase planned for our Term 2 assembly. We encourage all students to get involved and support this worthwhile cause. More information to follow.

We are also very pleased to welcome Mrs Fiona Brown to YPS. Mrs Brown will be working in our K/1 classroom alongside Mrs Wheeler and will also be supporting student learning on Wednesdays. We are excited to have her join our team and know she will be a great addition to our school community.
