'The 39 Steps' adapted by Patrick Barlow, is a fast-paced theatrical comedy that brilliantly blends Alfred Hitchcock's classic film with John Buchan's celebrated espionage novel. Set in 1930s Britain, the story follows the seemingly ordinary Richard Hannay, whose life is turned upside down after a chance meeting with a mysterious spy. When she is murdered in his apartment, Hannay becomes the prime suspect and is forced to flee across the country in a desperate attempt to clear his name.
Filled with intrigue, danger, and unexpected twists, Hannay encounters a colourful cast of eccentric characters while evading both the police and a shadowy organisation known as 'The 39 Steps'. Renowned for its inventive staging, rapid character changes, physical comedy, and ingenious theatrical effects, the play transforms train chases, airplane crashes, and daring escapes into a hilarious and imaginative theatrical adventure.
