Gospel Reflection
Gospel Reflection
30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Summary
In this Gospel, Jesus is asked which commandment is the greatest. His answer is simple but powerful: love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbour as yourself. Jesus reminds us that love is at the centre of everything we do. Our love for God is reflected in the way we treat others, through our kindness, compassion, forgiveness and care.
Scripture – Matthew 22:34-40
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees they got together and, to disconcert him, one of them put a question, ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?’ Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.’
Reflection
Jesus reminds us that love is more than just something we say; it is something we live. Every day, we have opportunities to show God's love through our words, choices and actions.
In our school community, we live out this Gospel when we welcome others, offer a helping hand, show patience, forgive mistakes and look after those who need our support. Even the smallest acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
As a Catholic learning community, we are called to put love at the heart of our relationships, helping each person feel valued, respected and connected. When we choose love, we help one another flourish.
Reflection Questions
- How do I show my love for God through the way I treat others?
- Who in my life might need a little extra kindness, patience or care this week?
- What is one simple action I can take to make our school, home or community a more loving place?
Prayer
Loving God,
Thank you for teaching us that love is the greatest gift we can share. Help us to love you with all our hearts and to see your presence in everyone we meet. Guide our words and actions so that we may show kindness, patience and compassion each day. May our school community continue to grow in love, faith and friendship, helping everyone feel welcomed, valued and supported.
Amen.
Class Masses
Each Friday, one of our classes attends the 12:10pm parish Mass at St Kilian’s Church, with our Pastoral Care Group also attending the First Friday Anointing Mass each month.
Students are encouraged to actively participate in the Mass through roles such as readers, altar servers, and bringing forward the gifts. These experiences help students grow in confidence and deepen their understanding of the Mass and Catholic traditions.
This initiative is also a valuable way of continuing to strengthen the connection between our parish and school communities, while encouraging students to take an active role in faith and community life.

⛪ Around St Kilian’s Parish
There is plenty happening in our parish community at the moment, including some exciting progress towards the reopening of St Kilian’s Church!
Church Restoration Works
Restoration works following the fire have now begun inside St Kilian’s Church. The current stage includes cleaning and remediation, scaffolding, carpet removal, work on the organ pipes and other restoration works. Parishioners may notice additional contractors and vehicles around the church during this time.
The current works program is aiming for the church to return to use towards the end of October. This will be a wonderful milestone for our parish and will also mean that the Parish Hall can once again become available to our school community. We look forward to seeing the church restored and our parish community gathering there again!
Fr Junray on Sabbatical
Fr Junray is currently away on a well-earned sabbatical until November. His time away includes walking the Camino and spending time with the Carmelite Brothers for prayer, reflection and renewal. While Fr Junray is away, Fr Rob Galea is supporting the parish.
