Specialist Subjects

OASIS 3BH & 3R
In OASIS, students will explore the properties of rocks, minerals and soils and discover how they are used in everyday life. They will investigate different types of rocks and soils and learn why these important Earth resources are valuable to people, plants and animals. Students will also continue to learn about our school’s rubbish and recycling system and continue completing their rubbish bin jobs to help care for our school environment.
DigiTech 3MP & 3D - Cam Taylor
Students will develop foundational programming skills by exploring how computers use algorithms to follow instructions. They will build an understanding of core computational concepts such as sequencing, branching, input-output relationships and repetition.
Art – Lauren Nankervis
The children use materials and visual conventions to express their ideas in artworks. They will discuss how artists express ideas and use materials and techniques from a range of times. They will use printmaking, focussing on pattern, contrast and movement. They will create images with repeated patterns and colour.
Music – Stacie Mason
Students will learn to read notes on the stave (the lines and spaces music is written on) as musical letters, practising this concept each lesson. Students will explore new concepts such as ostinato (repeated pattern) and pentatonic scale (group of 5 notes) through singing and playing bar instruments, such as xylophones and metallophones.
Indonesian – Jacqui Pethybridge
The topic for Grade 3 this term is “Makanan” (Foods). They will learn the vocabulary for various foods including some traditional Indonesian foods and unfamiliar tropical fruits. Students will use this language to discuss foods they like/dislike/have not tried.
Science – Emma Jensen
Students will explore the properties of gases, identify examples of gases in everyday life such as air, steam and carbon dioxide, and investigate how gases behave by filling available space, flowing, and changing volume when heated.
PE – Luke Freeman and Class Teachers
Our focus will turn to striking and fielding games, with students being introduced to rounders, tee ball, softball and cricket. They will continue to develop important skills such as resilience, persistence, fairness, sharing, inclusive practices, rule-following and effective communication.
We will conclude the year by revisiting fundamental movement skills and using them in a range of fun sporting activities.
