Principal's Message

It’s Time to Prepare

Another vibrant and fulfilling school year comes to a close at Trinity College and with a change of pace, we’re able to consider the many blessings that have shaped our community.  This year has offered countless moments in which our young men have embraced the values at the heart of an Edmund Rice education and embodied our Touchstones of Liberating Education, Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community, and Justice and Solidarity.

As the term concludes, I invite you all to pause and reflect on the sacred season of Advent - a time of hopeful waiting, joyful anticipation, and renewed openness to God’s living presence among us. Separate from the Black Friday sales and pre-Christmas sales that encourage spending in the promise of material happiness, Advent encourages us to slow down amid the busyness of holiday preparations and celebrations, reminding us in a quiet, peaceful way to meaningfully prepare for Christ’s presence and Christ’s love in our lives.

In these weeks of preparation for Christmas when many of us will make extra efforts to come together, our EREA Touchstones call us to cultivate peace, compassion, and gratitude. This Advent, we focus on the themes of the four candles - Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Each candle on the Advent wreath invites us to reflect on the gifts we can offer others: a forgiving heart, a listening ear, an act of kindness and charity, and a moment of genuine inclusion. As we journey toward Christmas and a time of year when many will return to Church communities in faith and a sign of Christian solidarity, may we all find opportunities to share God’s love in simple and meaningful ways.

And as we commence the summer holidays for a well-deserved break, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all students, staff, and families of the Trinity College community for your commitment and support throughout the year.  May this time be one of rest, renewal, and connection with loved ones.

On a personal note, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the students, staff, and parents of Trinity College who have so warmly embraced and supported me over the last six years in my time as Vice Principal at the College.  I leave this wonderful community with some sadness, but so much richer for all it has generously gifted me, and all it has taught me about the incredible joys of an all-boys’ education in the Edmund Rice Tradition.  The Trinity College community will remain in my heart, and you will always remain in my prayers.

Live Jesus in our hearts.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Mrs Sabrina Hughes
