Learning Diversity

Vision for Engagement -our over arching expectations and engagement practices Part 4 of 6.
Promoting Mental Health and Wellbeing
MACS schools prioritise the holistic wellbeing of every student by fostering nurturing environments where they feel valued, supported and empowered to thrive. The MACS Vision for Engagement recognises that wellbeing and academic growth reinforce each other.
Current research points to the harmful social and mental health effects of students using mobile phones, screens and devices, especially in relation to the use of social media. Reducing the time spent on digital devices may support better wellbeing and mental health for students. Teaching students how to keep themselves safe, having trusted adults to talk to, promoting peer support networks and ensuring access to professional mental health services are key strategies.
At St Bede's to promote mental health and wellbeing we:
- know and proactively provide support for each student.
- explicitly teach wellbeing strategies and responses
- explicitly teach positive behaviours for learning and our school values of BEING SAFE, BEING RESPECTFUL and BEING RESILIENT!
- develop positive relationships with families, parishes and communities.
- minimise the time our students spend on phones, screens and devices, and we
- support student empowerment- enabling them to take an active role in their own wellbeing and for them to make informed decisions about their health and happiness.
