Inter school sports round up!

SSV Basketball

Our Year Six Girls Basketball Team qualified for the Regional Finals earlier this term after winning the Northern Peninsula Division title at Somerville Recreation Centre. The girls represented our school with outstanding skill and sportsmanship at the Regional level, where the standard of competition is exceptionally high.

After going undefeated in the group stage, they topped their pool and advanced to the Semi-Final against Genazzano, the runner-up from the opposite side of the draw. Although their campaign came to an end at this stage, the girls should be incredibly proud of their performance. Finishing in the top four schools across a region with more than 300 primary schools is an exceptional achievement.

A special thank you to Mrs Polydor for her dedication and guidance in coaching the team throughout the season.

Rnd 1 – Woodlands 18-18 St. Margaret’s Berwick

Rnd 2 – Woodlands 12-11 John Henry

Rnd 3 – Woodlands 41-5 Rosewood Downs

Semi Final – Woodlands lost to Genazzano

Cricket Division and Regionals

Earlier this term our boys Cricket team took to the field to continue their progress in the School Sport Victoria competition after winning their District back in term 1. The boys performed exceptionally well, progressing all the way to the regional competition.

At the Division Finals, the team won all of their matches, an outstanding achievement that secured their place at Regionals.

The Regional tournament presented strong competition from quality teams. While the boys recorded one win from three matches, they demonstrated great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day and should be very proud of their efforts.

Results:

Round 1: Parkdale PS defeated Woodlands

Round 2: Woodlands defeated Thomas Mitchell PS

Round 3: Beacon hills College defeated Woodlands

Congratulations to all students who participated. A big thank you to our coach, Mr Hicks, and to the parents who supported the team throughout the competition. Well done, boys!

At the Regional Finals, the boys narrowly lost their opening game against St Louis de Montfort, who went on to win the overall title. They bounced back with strong performances in their remaining pool matches, securing wins against Berwick PS and Dandenong North PS. This placed Woodlands in the playoff for third place, where the team finished on a high with a 22–15 victory over Beaconsfield College.

Congratulations to all students involved. For many of the boys, this journey is particularly impressive given that their Softball experience only began at the end of Year 5 when they were first introduced to the game.
