The term is going very fast. It has been a great pleasure to have worked with the current Year 10 group of students.

We have had a fabulous year!

During week’s 5 and 6 the students will be completing Common Assessment Tasks in all subjects.

Camp

At the end of last term, 34 students from the Churchill and Morwell Campuses embarked on an exciting Year 10 Tasmania Camp. The adventure began bright and early at 4:30 am on Monday, with many bleary-eyed students gathering at Morwell Campus, ready to board a coach bound for Melbourne Airport. From there, staff and students boarded a Virgin Australia flight to Hobart, eager to kick off a week full of exploration and fun.

The itinerary was packed with unforgettable experiences. Students enjoyed a round of minigolf, explored the historic Port Arthur site, and visited museum and art gallery exhibitions. The week was also filled with scenic sightseeing, an afternoon at Cataract Gorge, several shopping trips, plenty of delicious meals, and a surprise snowfall on the very first day!

On Thursday evening, the group travelled to Devonport to board the Spirit of Tasmania for an overnight journey home. Despite a few bouts of seasickness, everyone arrived safely back in Geelong at 6:00 am on Friday before returning by coach to Morwell Campus.

The Tasmania Camp was a memorable experience for all, offering students the chance to bond, explore, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Meanwhile, students remaining at school participated in a modified program tailored to keep them engaged and on track with their learning.

Inspiring Young People Dinner

On Wednesday 15 October, four Year 10 students — Liam S, Isabella L, Jack H, and Jett D-G, attended the Inspiring Young People Dinner at the Moe Turfside Function Centre. The event brought together over 100 students from the Baw Baw and Latrobe regions and 60 community mentors to share stories, advice, and inspiration about different career journeys.

Liam reflected,

“I learnt that there are so many more options than the one set choice I want to do.”

Isabella described the evening as

“full of amazing people with interesting careers and lives… it was an inspiration to hear from so many people who started off not knowing where they were going but now have full careers.”

Jack said,

“The night was amazing — the speeches, the food, and meeting people from different backgrounds. It was truly a fun-filled evening.”

And Jett summed it up simply:

“People care a lot more about us kids than we know.”

The dinner was an uplifting experience that left students feeling motivated, valued, and excited for their future pathways.

PBS

Throughout the year, students have been receiving a KPA SMS message to parents from teachers each lesson for positive behaviour. Students have also been receiving postcards for displaying consistent behaviours for the four school pillars of Excellence, Relationships, Work Ethic and Engagement. This year, we have been rewarding students with excellent attendance to school and for LBU reports at or above 3.5, as well as growth reports. The last LBU reports had 16 students receive a 4.0 result.

Year 10 Formal

The Year 10 Formal is scheduled to take place in the function room at the Australian Italian Club on Tuesday 25th November, 6pm - 9pm. This special event celebrates students’ time at the Morwell Campus before they transition to the University Campus the following week.

The Formal is a student-only event, providing an opportunity for everyone to come together, enjoy a memorable evening, and reflect on their journey over the past years. While attendance is not compulsory, the Formal has always been a popular tradition and offers a wonderful way to mark the end of this chapter—plus, it’s a perfect excuse to dress up and celebrate in style!
