Term 4 is always a busy time for both students and staff as we prepare for final assessments and start transitioning students into the next year of study.  It is my pleasure to welcome our new Humanities and English teacher this term, Madi Brooks.  Madi replaces Paul Mackie who we wished farewell at the end of last term.  We’re positive that Madi will fit in well and be a great long term asset to our community.  Assistant Principal, Daniel Murphy, is also absent from our school this term.  Daniel is filling in as Acting Principal at a primary school in Sale for the rest of the term.  We wish him well.  In the interim, Sarah Eccles will fill his role as Assistant Principal for Morwell Campus whilst also continuing her support as the College’s Disability Inclusion Principal.

Pyjama Day

Our Student Leaders did a fantastic job of putting together Pyjama Day, raising money for State Schools Relief – an organisation which in turns supports many families in need in our school throughout the year.  Throughout the year, the student leadership program has been really strong, being an active voice for students for both the small day-to-day issues and for larger events and opportunities throughout the year.  I am very proud of the development of our leaders, and seeing them now present in front of the whole school several times a term provides both challenge and reward for their work.

PAT Testing

We have conducted our annual internal literacy and numeracy testing across Year 7-10.  This testing gives us an opportunity to check our teacher judgement against standardised assessments and gives students another way of demonstrating their capability and learning.  The tests are only short – less than a period.  They are also used to track progress of ALPs students and to look at prospective students who might benefit from transitioning to any spare spaces that may exist within the ALPs program.

Grade 6 Transition

I’ve been really pleased to already start meeting some Grade 6 students who are undertaking additional transition to support them with their move to high school in 2026.  The students I have met so far have been enthusiastic and positive, and I’m sure they’ll make a great addition to our learning community.  In all community support for Kurnai College is constantly increasing and next year will see Morwell Campus nearly at capacity in all year levels.  We thank all our families for choosing and supporting our school and look forward to continuing to improve so that the experience of your child in secondary school is the best it can possibly be.
