Redcross Pillowcase Project
This week a team from the Red Cross came and delivered their pillowcase project to our Middle Primary Students.
The pillowcase workshop aims to help students
- Understand the importance of being prepared.
- Prepare their mind for the thoughts and feelings that may arise before, during and after an emergency.
- Know what to pack in an emergency kit.
During the session there was lots of rich discussion regarding emergencies and students' experiences. They participated in card activities where they had to decide what to take during an emergency situation. This led to a discussion about needs and wants.
One exercise promoted colour breathing which was a strategy for students to calm themselves in stressful situations.
The last part of the session allowed students to draw what items they would take with them in an emergency and decorate their own pillowcases with fabric markers.
It was a great opportunity to work with external providers to have an engaging session around our Child Protection Curriculum.
