Round the classes- specialist lessons

Science: Paige

During recent learning in Science, we have extended our scientific knowledge of gravity, friction, forces and energy through experimenting with air resistance, magnetism and different forms of energy.

Junior Primary students have experimented with paper planes and explored how the plane interacts with the air and the ground. We are also experimenting with moving parts of toys and machines and learning new vocab to support their learning.

Middle Primary students have explored air resistance by designing and building parachutes, and are exploring the invisible force of magnetism through experimenting with magnets.

Upper Primary has extended their knowledge of electrical energy through experimenting with electrical circuits and have begun discussing different forms of light energy including natural and artificial sources of light. We particularly enjoyed discussing and exploring the concept of bioluminescent animals and how they function in the wild.

Indonesian: Ibu Susan

In Indonesian the younger classes have been learning/revising colour words and using them to describe minibeasts, like labah-labah hitam (black spider). We have used songs, craft and stories to reinforce this vocabulary. The year 4/5 students have been busy creating posters about Indonesia, including fun facts and places to visit. The 5/6 students will be sharing their fabulous sea turtle board games next week with the year 1s. They have all worked very hard on these. Some classes have also had time to research wonderful pangolins. Did you know they don't have teeth and use stones in their stomachs to grind up food?

HASS: Izzy

As we come to the end of term, it has been exciting to see all the classes begin to draw together their HASS learning. In Junior Primary, students are thinking about special places that they can care for, as well as the features of these places, and locating them on a map. Students have also been inquiring into places outside of Australia and looking at the differences and similarities between Australia and other countries.

In Middle Primary, students have learned about various ways to become more sustainable and are choosing strategies they are passionate about. They are synthesising their learning by doing further research into eco-friendly practices and thinking about how to implement these in their own lives and local community.

In Upper Primary, students are conducting independent research into a country in Asia and have been given the opportunity to present their information in a variety of ways. I am looking forward to seeing the creative ways in which students communicate their research and the interesting things they find out about their countries of choice!

PE: Troy

Over the past two weeks, students have participated in TriSkills lessons run by an external provider specialising in Sports, Dance, and Gymnastics. Each 50-minute session has introduced students to different aspects of gymnastics using a wide range of equipment.

During the first week, the focus was on shapes and landings, with students practising a variety of gymnastic shapes and learning correct landing techniques—including motorbike landings onto mats. The second week built on this foundation, with students incorporating different turns into their landings and movements as they explored direction and coordination.

Students have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to try new activities and use equipment that many had not experienced before.

Enjoy a selection of photos showcasing students from across the school taking part in these sessions.

Gardening: Jo

Composting has been the topic of gardening this term. The 3/4 students have turned, layered and fed the various compost systems we have at school to disperse our green waste.

Ask them if they can remember what they are-.....[open compost, closed compost, turning compost, worm farm and sub-pod.]

Cooking is always a highlight in the last session of gardening groups. Cauliflower curry fritters with a yoghurt and mint dipping sauce were made by group one and Spinach "Triangles" were made by group two. Some of the comments were "yummy", "delicious", "so so", and "thank you, I had fun making the balls, but I didn't like the taste". The students have been writing up their own recipes, which helps them to think about the ingredients they used, the steps taken, and to make a comment about the process or taste of what they have made.

Group three is yet to have this cooking adventure, so watch this space.
