Principal's Report

Assessment and Reporting
The end of Term 2 is always a busy time in schools as teachers have been doing assessments with the students and completing reports. These assessments are carefully scheduled throughout the term. The teachers then use the data gained through the assessments and moderation to inform their reporting to parents and the Department of Education.
Teachers are currently finalising each child’s report and assessment checklists. Once this is completed, I will be signing the reports. They will be sent home along with their assessment portfolio, on Wednesday July 24th.
While we will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual, the reports will not include descriptive comments, due to the industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We will of course be pleased to discuss your child’s progress with you at our next 3 Way Conferences, scheduled for Monday July 27th.
3 Way Conferences
In Semester 2 we will be holding our 3 Way Conferences on Monday July 27th between 1.00pm and 7.30pm.
Parents will be able to make a booking on Compass as of Monday July 13th (first day of Term 3) from 3.30 pm.
We will be using the normal format and ask that those parents who can keep their children at home for the day to please do so.
These conferences will provide parents with the opportunity to discuss their child’s Assessment Portfolio and report with the classroom teacher. The conferences are an integral part of the reporting process, so it is imperative that all families attend.
Building Update
The works are making good progress. They are currently completing a substantial amount of underground infrastructure. At this stage the plan is that the framework will start going up during the holidays, so hopefully we will return to something that looks like a building.
This week work is starting on the area on the west side of the site. This will incorporate works being done to the playground area near the Bowden Street gate so it will be closed for the remainder of the term. Families will need to use Entrance 1 (the black gate on Bowden Street) or Entrance 4 in Ellison Street.
Planning Week
Next week we are having Planning Week across the school. This entails changes to the specialist timetable so that each year level will have a whole day of specialist subjects rather than sessions throughout the week.
On the day the teachers will be spending the day planning the program for Term 3.
Student and Staff Illness
With the onset of winter, we are having an increasing number of illnesses within the school which are affecting both the students and staff. Students and staff who are unwell should not be at school as they are potentially spreading their illness on to others.
If your child is unwell, PLEASE keep them at home.
All absences need to be entered on Compass.
Communication
It is important that parents ensure they have access to Compass as it is our primary means of communicating with parents.
If you have Compass set up on your phone, you will receive an alert when items are sent out.
Please ensure that you read what is sent out otherwise you will not know what is happening in the school.
- All excursions, incursions and camp information are sent out on Compass.
- Consent and payments must be made on Compass.
- All important dates are on the Compass calendar.
- Newsletters are sent out via Compass.
- School policies are on Compass (Community / School Documentation).
Regards,
Janet Paterson,
Principal.
