Gifted Awareness Week

This week is Gifted Awareness Week and there are a lot of activities planned for the students to celebrate their learning and talents.

On Thursday, two visiting Gifted specialist teachers, Jacqualine Hardman and Dr Bernardo came to work with Year 6W and 5W focussing on STEM challenges.  They also worked with some primary staff teachers after school to support differentiation in the STEM field which will further enable our teachers to plan for our highly talented students to be extended and enriched in their learning.

On Tuesday, 24 of our Year 3 to Year 6 students who attend Learning Extension Online (LEO) travelled to St Virgil's College for a day of learning filled with enriching and challenging activities.  2 Lectures from Lyceum Centre (Melbourne) ran sessions.  It was a great day, filled with challenges and fantastic learning.  We extend our appreciation to Jacqualine Hardman (CET Learning Extension/Gifted officer).

There are many more activities that are occurring this week, including Maths extension lunchtime activities, Debating, LEO courses (Primary and Secondary), as well as the differentiation that occurs daily in classrooms.

Story Time Magic in Our Library!

Students gathered in our library to join this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime, sharing one story with children nationwide.

This year’s book, Luna Roo, the Kangaroo Baller, by Adam Wallace and Adrian Beck, follows Luna Roo, captain of FC Outback, in the Animal World Cup. Students listened to the authors read and learned to draw Luna Roo with illustrator Jake A. Minton.

With women’s football growing in popularity and inspiration from Australia’s national team, Luna Roo is a standout female role model for young readers.
