A Word from the Principal

Pentecost - the birthday of the Church

Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter Sunday and marks the conclusion of the Easter season. The word Pentecost comes from the Greek word meaning “fiftieth.” The feast is celebrated this year on Sunday, 24 May. The liturgical colour for Pentecost is red, symbolising the fire of the Holy Spirit and the passion and courage given to the disciples.

As we celebrate Pentecost, we are reminded of the powerful moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, filling them with courage, hope and faith. Gathered together in uncertainty after the death and resurrection of Jesus, the disciples were transformed by the Spirit and sent out to share the message of Christ with the world. Pentecost is often called the “Birthday of the Church” because it marks the beginning of the Church’s mission of faith, love and service.

The story of Pentecost in Acts 2:1–13 invites us to reflect on the presence of the Holy Spirit in our own lives. Scripture tells us that the disciples heard the sound of a mighty wind, and tongues of fire rested upon them as they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Suddenly, they found the courage to go out into the world, speaking to people of many nations and languages about the love of God.

This Gospel story reminds us that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and strengthen us today. The Spirit works quietly within us each day, helping us to make good choices, show kindness, forgive others and stand up for what is right. Pentecost encourages us to ask: How can I share God’s love with others? How can I bring peace, hope and compassion into my family, school and community?

As families, Pentecost can be a meaningful opportunity to pray together, read the Scripture story and reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit; wisdom, understanding, courage, kindness and peace. Small acts of love and generosity allow us to continue the mission that began on Pentecost so many years ago.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.” — Acts 2:4

Early Arrivals

To support the safety and wellbeing of all students, families are reminded that staff supervision in the school grounds commences at 8.20am each morning. Students arriving prior to this time are not supervised, and we ask for your support in ensuring children do not arrive at school too early. The time before school provides an important opportunity for staff to prepare for the day ahead, and your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and orderly environment for all members of our College community.
