Year 2 - Newsletter

Dear Year 2 families,
We are officially over halfway through Term 2!
Important dates for this term
Monday, 8th June – King’s Birthday
Wednesday, 24th June – PST Conferences
Friday, 26th June – Last Day of Term, 2:30 pm dismissal
What we are doing in class
In Inquiry, we are continuing to explore the states and territories of Australia. The students are enjoying using Atlases to locate information and find features shown on maps.
In Mathematics, our Addition and Subtraction unit has explored strategies such as using number lines, the split strategy and the vertical algorithm. As well as learning these strategies, we are also identifying how to use these to solve worded problems.
In Literacy, we have started Stage 7.5 in Little Learners. This new stage introduces a weekly morpheme (the smallest meaningful unit of language) and looks at its application in context. Last week we looked at how -ed can make a verb past tense or can change a verb to an adjective (e.g. We painted the fence. OR The painted fence.) In our ‘Rose Meets Mr Wintergarten’ text based unit, we have looked at comparing and contrasting this text to Wilfrid Gordon MacDonald Partridge and have explored the use of adjectives and adjective phrases to describe the inside and outside traits of characters. All this work is the lead into writing our own narratives.
Platoons (our weekly Year 2 sport session - additional to their PE specialist class) continues to run every Wednesday this term.
Maths Day
What a day! There were some fantastic costumes that highlighted how maths is all around us. The kids enjoyed showcasing their outfits at our parade. Thanks to all the family members who made it for our Kahoot! We hope you had as much fun as we did.
Book Report and Presentation
These commence this week.
Reminders
Please continue to read and return readers.
Kind regards,
The Year 2 Team.
