Celebrating Growth

Within the Junior School, and more broadly the College, we understand and celebrate that every boy’s learning journey is unique. Constantly, staff are reflecting on one of the great privileges of education which is watching that growth unfold over time. As we move towards the end of the year, teachers continue engaging in a thorough review of each student's progress in their academics, social and emotional development.

As the term progresses, so will student testing. Summative assessment results form an important part of this process. These class-based assessments allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts taught by their teachers.

Standardised assessments, such as PAT testing, provide valuable insights by helping us track progress over time and identify areas of strength and growth. These assessments allow teachers to compare a student's development against expected learning progressions. Importantly, they are not designed to place additional pressure on boys or define their success. PAT testing will occur throughout weeks three and four this term.

As parents, you play an important role in this partnership. As we come towards the end of the year, I encourage you to check in with your son's teacher to discuss his learning, celebrate successes, and gain a deeper understanding of his progress.

Perhaps most importantly, we believe in celebrating growth. Progress is not always measured by large leaps forward; often it is found in the small, consistent improvements that occur through effort, perseverance, and resilience. Recognising and acknowledging these achievements helps build confidence, reinforces a growth mindset, and encourages boys to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn.

By working together and focusing on growth rather than simply outcomes, we continue to foster a culture where boys develop a love of learning, take pride in their progress, and understand that improvement is an ongoing journey. Every step forward deserves to be recognised and celebrated.

God Bless,

Mr James McPherson

Last week, our Year 4, 5 and 6 students explored the importance of water through a series of Water Corporation incursions. We welcomed Anna for our Year 4 and 5 sessions and Preston for Year 6.

Year 4 investigated our water supply and took part in a hands-on filtration activity, pouring dirty water through sand and gravel separately to compare how effectively each material filtered the water.

Year 5 learnt about water conservation, exploring how much water each person uses in a day and the amounts used for everyday activities such as showering and watering the garden. The students were surprised by the facts about our daily water use!

Year 6 explored the deep connection Aboriginal people have with water. They learnt about Noongar knowledge, traditional water management and conservation practices, and the significance of waterways on Wadjuk Country.

These visits connected our classroom science learning with everyday life and cultural perspectives, highlighting the importance of caring for this precious resource. Thank you to Anna, Preston and the Water Corporation for sharing your knowledge and supporting our students’ learning!

Scitech Challenge Day

On Tuesday, a group of Trinity College Year 4 and 5 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in Scitech Challenge Day 2026! Throughout the day, the boys put their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills to the test as they worked together to tackle a range of fun and engaging challenges.

The activities encouraged students to think creatively, solve problems, communicate effectively and work collaboratively. It was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to represent Trinity College, connect with like-minded students from other schools and put their STEM knowledge into action.

Well done to Levi, Max, Callum, Henry, Hamish, James, Alex and Mitchell! Your enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to embrace every challenge were wonderful to see!

Trinity College produced a determined performance in the 2026 Katich Moody Cup against Guildford Grammar, posting 207/7 from their 40 overs before restricting Guildford to 95/9. The 112-run victory highlighted Trinity’s patience with the bat, resilience under pressure and disciplined bowling.

After Guildford won the toss and elected to bowl, Trinity made a steady start through Zane Casson and Sam Citterbard. Sam played positively, striking five boundaries in his 32-ball innings of 31, while Zane provided the backbone of the innings with a patient 38 from 81 deliveries. Although wickets fell at regular intervals, Trinity maintained momentum throughout the innings.

Oscar Archibald contributed six before being run out, Matthew McInerney added 11, and Riordan Brown and Luke Francis chipped in with 15 and 10 respectively. Jon Borman accelerated the scoring with an enterprising 20 from 18 balls, including three boundaries. Harry Grant then provided an excellent finish, remaining unbeaten on 26 from 18 deliveries, supported by Mitchell Murray on nine not out. With 41 extras, Trinity finished on 207/7.

Trinity’s bowlers responded impressively, with Matthew McInerney and Jon Borman setting the tone through disciplined opening spells. Matthew claimed a wicket, while Jon delivered two maiden overs and an important breakthrough.

The wickets continued to fall as Trinity’s attack worked together effectively. Harry Grant finished with 2/15 from six overs, including three maidens, while Oscar Archibald claimed 2/20 from seven overs. Henry Grey also impressed, taking 2/11 from five overs. Their efforts prevented Guildford from building meaningful partnerships.

Mitchell Murray contributed an economical five-over spell for just 11 runs, while Zane Casson conceded only three runs from three overs, including two maidens. Strong fielding support ensured the pressure remained on throughout the innings.

Guildford finished on 95/9 from their 40 overs, handing Trinity a convincing 112-run victory. The result reflected a complete team performance, with valuable batting contributions complemented by disciplined bowling and determined fielding. The boys can take great confidence from a win built on patience, teamwork and persistence.

Blue Tree Round

Thursday, 29 October

As part of our JPSSA/PSA fixture against Christ Church, Trinity College will be supporting the Blue Tree Project to help raise awareness of mental health and encourage important conversations around wellbeing.

All students in Years 4-6 are asked to wear their PE uniform as usual and bring a gold coin donation, with all funds raised supporting the Blue Tree Project. Boys are also encouraged to add an extra blue element to their uniform, and families attending the games are invited to wear blue to show their support.

Together, we can help break down the stigma surrounding mental health and remind others that it's OK to not be OK.

Junior School Presentation Evening
