MWC Football / Netball
Mortlake College students recently participated in the MWC Football / Netball Day, enjoying a fantastic day of sport, teamwork at DC Farren Rec Reserve.
The netball competition was played in two pools of four teams. Mortlake Team A won the overall competition, while Mortlake Team B narrowly missed a place in the Grand Final before winning the 3rd place playoff game. Congratulations to all players, and a special congratulations to Indi Wardlaw, who was recognised as Mortlake College’s Best Player.
Football was played with the two teams made up of students from all four schools. Although the result did not go our way, Mortlake/Derri going down to the Hawkesdale/Lake Bolac side, the boys played well and represented Mortlake College.
A big thank you to all our staff and senior school student leaders who supported the event through coaching, umpiring, first aid and helping run the day. Their support and leadership helped make the event a success.
GWR Netball Report
Throughout Term 2, our Mid West Complex (MWC) netball teams proudly represented the district at the GWR competitions held in Ballarat at the Lamberris Netball Centre, with the Year 9/10 girls competing in Week 8 and the Year 7 and Year 8 girls taking the court in Week 10.
The MWC teams were made up of players from all four schools across the complex, Mortlake, Hawkesdale, Lake Bolac and Derrinallum, coming together to compete against schools with larger student populations.
Although results did not fall our way, the girls should be proud of the effort, determination and sportsmanship they displayed throughout the competitions. Competing at this level provided the girls with valuable exposure to a strong standard of netball and the opportunity to challenge themselves against quality opposition. It was also fantastic to see players support one another, work as a team and build connections with peers from across the complex while giving their all in every game.
A special thank you to Sommer Jones for stepping up when umpiring the Year 9/10 competition and Jess Baker for umpiring the Year 8 girls competition. Your time and support were greatly appreciated.
We would also like to thank Mininera Interleague for generously supplying the dresses worn by our teams. The girls represented the complex with pride and looked fantastic on court.
Well done to all players involved! Your positive attitude resulted in a rewarding experience representing the Mid West Complex.
AFL 9s Sports Day
On Tuesday 23rd June, our Grade 3/4 students participated in the AFL 9s Sports Day at the Noorat Recreation Reserve. With such strong student involvement, we were able to enter two mixed teams. The day focused on participation, enjoyment and teamwork, providing students with the opportunity to practise their football skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Throughout the day, students mostly demonstrated great sportsmanship, teamwork and encouragement towards one another. It was wonderful to see everyone having a go, building confidence and representing our school with pride. Well done to the 3/4 students, teacher helpers and student helper who got involved on a great sports day.
