Prep - Update

Be Kind

Be Responsible

Be an Active Learner

This term in Curiosity, the Prep students have been learning ‘How to Think Like a Scientist’. Throughout the term, we have explored the seasons and the changes that occur in nature throughout the year, comparing these observations with First Nations seasonal calendars, which are based on changes in the natural environment.

Students investigated the differences between day and night, shadows and sunshine, and learnt that day and night occur because the Earth rotates. As we conclude the unit, we have been exploring the properties of different materials and how they are suited to different purposes, as well as learning how to dress appropriately for a range of weather conditions.

Some of our favourite learning experiences included:• Creating chalk shadows• Making day and night paper plate rotators• Dressing characters for different weather conditions• Exploring autumn leaves and seasonal changes outside.

Alongside our Curiosity learning, students have been developing their scientific vocabulary through rich reading experiences. They have learnt and used words such as mist, dawn, dusk, sunrise and sunset.

Well done to the Preps for a fantastic term of becoming scientists!
