This year the Semester Reports that parents and carers will receive will look a little different. Parents will still receive a mid year semester report. This will include your child’s progression points in classroom subjects, reports from Specialist Teachers and assessments on Behaviour and Effort. There is a slight language change in the Behaviour and Effort section of the report and there will be a change in the comment section due to Industrial Action that has taken place.
Behaviour and Effort is marked on a 5 point scale, ranging through Needs Attention, Developing, Good, Very Good and Excellent. This language is a slight change from previous reports, where the word Developing is replacing the word Acceptable. This language change was made to better reflect the support that students at this level require and is unpacked further below:
Needs Attention is used to mark students who require extensive adjustments. These students need significant support and have measures in place to support the student at school, which have been discussed with the parent.
Developing is used to signify students who require support and some adjustments. These students require regular prompting, reminders, re-direction and support from the teacher.
Good is used to mark students who require semi-regular reminders and re-direction to display the appropriate behaviour, follow school expectations or to meet the expected work standard.
Very Good is used for students who consistently apply themselves to tasks or to meeting the expected behaviour and only require some occasional reminders or prompting.
Excellent denotes a student who is exceptionally well behaved, adheres to all school values and classroom expectations and would rarely require reminders. Excellent effort, would show that the students apply themselves to all tasks to the best of their ability and that they strive to do their best learning and work.
This year the Australian Education Union (AEU) has implemented a range of industrial action, including bans, limitations and stopwork action. One of the bans was on work related to the provision of written comments on student reports that will be provided to parents. That means that AEU members will not provide parents with written report comments in the mid year semester report. Parents will just receive the Progression Point marks and the students Behaviour and Effort across both classroom and Specialist subject areas.
In Term 3 there will be an opportunity to meet with teachers during Teacher-Parent meetings. More information about these meetings will be sent out at a later date. Parents as always, are welcome to reach out to teachers and arrange a meeting if they would like more information on how their child is progressing.
