School Council

It has been a busy few weeks for School Council, with our 2025 Public Reporting Meeting, plenty happening across our sub-committees and, of course, our Trivia Night!

Thank you to those who joined us for the Public Reporting Meeting. For anyone interested in finding out more about our school's achievements and progress throughout 2025, the 2025 Annual Report is available on the Bimbadeen Heights Primary School website.

Behind the scenes, our School Council sub-committees have been busy too. The Student Learning Committee has recently reviewed several school policies, including Duty of Care, Environmental and Sustainability and Parent Disputes. While many aspects of these policies are guided by Department of Education requirements, the committee considers where they can be refined to best reflect our Bimbadeen context.

Our Wellbeing Committee is busy preparing for Bimbadeen's fast-approaching 50th anniversary celebrations, while also looking at ways to build our students' understanding of our new school value, Aspire, and considering opportunities and pathways for student leadership. We have also been reflecting on how we recognise Mother's Day and Father's Day, with a view to ensuring these celebrations feel welcoming and equitable for our families. Some changes are being considered for next year, and we look forward to sharing more once plans have been finalised.

Our Finance Committee continues its important work overseeing the school's finances, reviewing expenditure and supporting financial planning and decision-making. Much of this work isn't particularly visible, but it is an essential part of ensuring our school's resources are managed carefully and responsibly.

And, of course, one of the highlights of the past few weeks was our Trivia Night!

Once again, it was a fantastic evening for our school community. We are thrilled to share that the night raised $8528.50, helping us continue to save towards our new playgrounds.

A huge amount of work goes into making an event like this happen, and Bimbadeen parents, Erin and Chris Haspell, have now been at the heart of our Trivia Night for an amazing five years. Erin does an extraordinary amount of work behind the scenes, helping to coordinate the event and sourcing a large proportion of the generous business donations we receive, before hosting the evening alongside the ever-creative Chris, who somehow manages to come up with new games and surprises for us each year.  We are incredibly fortunate to have their ongoing support and hugely appreciative of the time and energy they give to creating such a fun night for our community.

Lizzie Ediriweera, who leads our Community Links Committee, worked closely with Mel Murray and Mel Thomas, who stepped in at the last minute to pull so many of the pieces together - and did a phenomenal job. 

Our wonderful admin team – Emma, Shelley and Adele Gates – also played an important role in receiving, organising and keeping track of many of the donations that arrived at school in the lead-up to the night.

Our hampers looked fantastic on the night thanks to the parents who generously gave their time to put them together and the many families who contributed items for both the hampers and the Barrow of Booze. We were also very fortunate to have members of our school community help source an enormous range of prizes. Together, these contributions resulted in an incredible 76 Silent Auction items, along with spot prizes and a prize for our winning table.

There was also plenty to do to get the space ready for the evening, with staff members and parents pitching in to help with set-up and transform the space before everyone arrived.

On the night itself, Adele Gregson, Bree King and Marty Gill were kept very busy selling raffle tickets and keys and processing auction payments. It was also wonderful to have so many staff members stay and join in the fun, supporting the event alongside our families.

Of course, the night wouldn't be much of a Trivia Night without everyone who came along! It was wonderful to see so many people joining in the fun, supporting the fundraising and simply enjoying a night together as a school community.

We are also enormously grateful to the many businesses who supported the evening. They are all acknowledged on the following page, and we encourage our families to support them where they can. Their generosity towards our school helped make the night possible.

There is so much that happens across our school because people are willing to give their time, ideas and support.
