Years 10-12

Badge Conferral
Congratulations to all students that were acknowledged at Badge Conferral last week. One of the more important responsibilities undertaken by our Year 12s is the mentorship of their brand new Foundation buddies. The Foundation students spent some time getting to know their “Big People”, and are keen to see more of them soon.
Swimming Sports
Thank you to all senior students, and especially to the Year 12 students, for their exceptional efforts today at the Swimming sports. Most senior students are in attendance today, and have shown infectious enthusiasm, leading their teams by example. I would like to acknowledge the fine leadership demonstrated by the house captains over the past weeks, organising their teams so that the day ran smoothly. Photos to come in next fortnight’s edition of the Bulletin!
VCE/VET student handbook
This week in Advisory, all students enrolled in a senior subject (VCE or VET) was guided through the College’s VCE/VET student handbook. This important policy document outlines all expectations around attendance, assessment and protocols that must be followed by senior students. Actions required for when a student is away due to illness, particularly on the day of an assessment, are included in this policy. It is vital that students and parents are familiar with the contents of this policy and ensure that the protocols are followed as outlined. All students in Years 10-12 have been given a hardcopy of the handbook, and a copy has been posted on Compass. If parents would like an additional copy, please request one by email at meaghan.king@education.vic.gov.au.
Around the classrooms
Year 11 Biology students have been hard at work, conducing three practical investigations in a row, exploring the structure and function of cells and their surrounding membranes.
Elevate study sessions
On Monday, students in Years 10-12 had the opportunity to engage with study skill-building sessions, run by Elevate Education. The feedback from the presenter was that our students represented themselves well. Hopefully these sessions provide students with some ideas to improve their study techniques.
Nutrien Ag Emersion Day - Michael Olive
On Thursday, the 12th of February, I went to the 'Nutrien Ag' branch in Boort. I received a scholarship last year on Awards Night, that is given to students that have a keen interest in the Agriculture field. This granted me a day at the site to learn and hear stories from people who work there. We started off the day with a tour from the branch manager, where we were shown all around the warehouse, including all the chemicals they sell to growers. We were then given talks by 4 of the workers there about what their job entails, and how they ended up there. One of the talks was from Charlton's own Mikaela Wilkinson, in which she spoke about her field in agronomy, and taking the Longerenong College path which led her to where she is today. There were also stock agents who spoke about how and where they sell stock around Victoria. The day ended with a scavenger hunt ran by Mikaela, which was fun for all to participate in.
A huge thank you goes out to Nutrien Ag for making this possible for award recipients, Claudia Cox and the NCLLEN for donating the award and making everything possible, and the school also for awarding this scholarship to me.
I would strongly recommend this experience to students interested in the agriculture field, and I look forward to presenting the 2027 recipient later this year.
