Senior Years Report

Senior Years – Term 3 Wrap-Up
Term 3 has been a busy one in Senior Years, with plenty happening both inside and outside the classroom!
Our Year 12 VCE students are heading into the home stretch, completing their final assessments and turning their attention to revision and exam preparation. With the finish line in sight, we encourage our Year 12s to stay focused, motivated and make the most of these final weeks – all of the hard work throughout the year is leading to this point! Meanwhile, our Year 12 VM students are wrapping up their VET courses and getting ready for their portfolio presentations, where they will have the chance to showcase their achievements and growth throughout their senior years.
There has also been plenty of adventure this term, with students taking part in a range of outdoor excursions – including a highlight for many, snow camp! Our Year 10 WILD Program has also been in full swing, with students heading outdoors each Thursday to build teamwork, resilience and confidence as they prepare for their multi-day camp in Term 4.
Congratulations to all our Senior Years students on a fantastic Term 3. Enjoy a well-earned break, and we look forward to an exciting final term!
Year 12 School Holiday Sessions
To support the exam phase of the Year 12 schooling journey, our Year 12 teachers are giving up time during the holidays to run revision sessions for students. These sessions provide an important opportunity to strengthen exam skills and receive targeted support from subject teachers. We strongly encourage students to make the most of these sessions as they prepare for their final VCE examinations and continue working towards achieving their best possible academic outcomes.
Year 12 BBQ
To celebrate the last full term of the Year 12s schooling journey, the Senior Sub school team put on a BBQ for the cohort. It was run on the day and cooked by the VM Grillmasters- Branden, Enzo, Jordan and Tom. The boys did a fantastic job and the teachers were able to acknowledge all the hard work that the students have put into their schooling. What a lovely group! Special thanks to Mr Hauser and Ms Foster who sourced the goods from our local Lara community.

WILD Program – Getting Out of Our Comfort Zones!
Students from Lara Secondary College have been embracing adventure, challenge and plenty of fun as part of the WILD Program – an outdoor adventure and personal growth program designed to help students get outdoors, learn new skills, challenge themselves and discover what they are capable of.
The program encourages students to Explore Outdoors, Discover Talents and Work Together, with a strong focus on building teamwork, connection and personal growth. Students are supported by qualified outdoor guides and are encouraged to participate through the program’s “Challenge by Choice” approach – giving things a go while remaining in control of their own level of challenge.
Adventure so far...
Since getting started in August, the group has already experienced an amazing range of activities:
- 6 August: Information Session and Interviews
- 13 August: Pre-program Interviews and Questionnaires
- 27 August: Nature Walk & Scramble at Werribee Gorge
- 3 September: Canoeing on the Barwon River
- 10 September: Abseiling at Royalty Walls in the You Yangs
17 September: Paddleboarding at Ocean Grove
From scrambling over rocky terrain to getting out on the water and abseiling down the rock face, students have been stepping outside their comfort zones and discovering that they are capable of more than they may have initially thought.
Building connections and confidence
One of the most rewarding parts of the WILD experience has been watching the group develop strong connections with one another. Students are learning to encourage, support and rely on each other while tackling new experiences together.
There has been so much fun, laughter and encouragement along the way, and students are increasingly willing to have a go at activities that might initially feel challenging or unfamiliar. The program’s three core values – Safety, Respect and Engage – are helping shape the way students interact with each other and approach each challenge.
We are incredibly proud of the way our WILD students are giving things a go, supporting one another and putting themselves outside their comfort zones. We can't wait to see what the rest of the program brings!
