Lunchtime Soccer and Cricket Program
Sport Star Academy are offering students a lunchtime soccer and cricket program, bringing huge energy, skill‑building, and fun straight into the school day. Students can sharpen their football and cricket skills, stay active, and enjoy structured games with expert coaches - all during their lunch break. Whether your child loves Soccer, Cricket, or wants both sports across multiple days, we’ve got an option that keeps them moving, smiling, and growing in confidence. It’s the perfect way to make lunchtime the best part of the day.

JLTAV Junior Speech Competition
Congratulations to Mia, Celine and Rita for representing Oakleigh Primary School at the Japanese Language Teachers Association of Victoria’s (JLTAV) Junior Speech Competition.
The competition brought together students from schools across Victoria. Students prepared and performed both a set speech and a speech they had written themselves. We are incredibly proud to celebrate some wonderful achievements. Mia won the Year 5/6 Open Division, which is open to Japanese speakers and bilingual students, while Celine won the Year 5/6 Individual Division. Rita also competed in the Year 5/6 Open Division and should be very proud of her achievement.
We are so proud of all three students for their hard work, confidence and commitment to Japanese language learning.
A special thank you to Asami Sensei and Miyuki for their support in preparing the students for the competition.
Well done, Mia, Celine and Rita! We look forward to seeing what next year brings!
Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge 2026 Update
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge began in March and finished on 4 September 2026.
Oakleigh Primary School and Kindergarten students logged 1190 books in the Challenge this year. What a great effort from our students!
Oakleigh PSK’s Most Read Books in the Challenge:
Books in The Dog Man series by Dav Pilkey were logged over 30 times by our students.
Tap Rated Books in the Challenge:
‘Peppa Pig’s Busy Day at School’, written by Peppa Pig, was awarded 5 stars by many students who logged this book.
The Football Legends series was also very popular, with ‘Lionel Messi’ written by E.L. Norry also receiving 5 stars from many readers.
The Department of Education is in the process of sending out Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Certificates. We expect to receive them in term four and will distribute them once they have arrived.

Photography competition: Backyard Biodiversity
Students are invited to enter the ResourceSmart Schools Sustainability Through Your Own Lens photography competition.
This year’s theme is Backyard Biodiversity: Discover Your Local Icons. Photograph a local native animal, habitat, plant or other example of biodiversity and include a reflection of up to 100 words.
Winning entries receive $200 for their school towards a sustainability project.
Entries close Friday, 16 October 2026.
