Year 11 Respect & Resilience Workshops

On Tuesday April 21 students will participate in Respectful Relationships workshops in lieu of their regular classes. These workshops will be delivered by trained experts in the field. This education is mandated in all government schools and aims to create a culture of respect and equality where students learn about positive relationships, consent and recognizing and addressing disrespect and violence. Specifically, this day will cover the below:

Recognising and Responding to Sexual Assault: Run by "Consent Labs"

  • Consent in the Digital World
  • What is non-consensual behaviour and how can we identify if this has occurred?
  • We help young people develop the confidence when it comes to unpacking the legislation and nuances of consent.
  • What can we do about sexual harassment when we see it?
  • Using statistics to debunk and address key myths surrounding sexual harassment and sexual assault and why we should challenge them.
  • What can young people do should they find themselves or a friend in a situation where sexual harassment or assault has occurred?
  • Our language and actions are important. How can young people support a friend or someone who has experienced sexual harassment or assault?

Healing from hurt, pain and trauma:

  • In his seminar, Health After Hurt, kidnapped teacher and author Rob Hunter, retells the story of the Wooreen State School kidnapping of 1977 and the after affects. The presentation gives first hand insight into the trauma experienced by the victims, of heroism and bravery, along with the health and healing that is possible from such pain and torment. Students are given practical tools to cope with their own hurts and traumas.

This is a compulsory school day for our students and will count towards their VCE attendance. Guardians with concerns about the topics being covered above are encouraged to contact their child’s House Leader to discuss.
