Peer Support K-6 commenced last week. K-6 students participate in the 8 week Peer Support program for 30 minutes each week on a Tuesday. Two Year 6 Peer Leaders facilitate a group of 8-10 younger students, who work together on several structured activities. Each teacher will supervise groups in a room.
The focus for the program in 2026 is Keeping Friends, helping explore the concept of friendship, building relationships and developing skills in empathy and critical thinking. The module runs for 8 sessions.
We encourage families to talk about Peer Support weekly as it helps reinforce concepts learned each session.
Session 3 (Week 4)
This week in the Peer Support session, children will be focusing on the importance of support networks and the role that friends play in each other’s lives. Children will construct a visual representation of this during the session.
Encourage your child to identify friends they have who can provide support if the need arises.
Session 4 (Week 5)
During Peer Support this week children will look at how to play in a friendly way in order to maintain friends and build positive relationships. Through various activities children will discover the importance of taking turns and having consistent rules throughout a game. This week help your child to practise these skills by encouraging them to play games with siblings, family or friends.
