Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

In today’s digital age, technology plays a central role in our students' learning and social lives. While the internet offers incredible opportunities for education and connection, it also brings important challenges regarding cyber safety.

At St Johns Park Public School, we believe that keeping our students safe online is just as important as their safety on the school grounds. Cyber safety involves understanding how to protect personal information, recognise online risks, and behave responsibly when using digital devices.

Why is Cyber Safety Important?

  • Protecting Personal Information: Students need to learn not to share sensitive information such as addresses, phone numbers, or passwords online.
  • Recognising Cyberbullying: Online bullying can have serious emotional impacts. We encourage students to speak up if they experience or witness negative behaviour.
  • Safe Use of Social Media: Understanding privacy settings and thinking carefully before posting helps prevent inappropriate sharing and protects students’ digital reputations. Students under the age of 16 should not have or use Social Media.
  • Avoiding Online Scams and Risks: Teaching students to be cautious about clicking links or downloading content from unknown sources helps prevent exposure to viruses or fraud.

Our School’s Commitment

We are committed to embedding cyber safety education into our curriculum and school activities. This includes:

  • Regular lessons on digital citizenship and online safety.
  • Workshops and information sessions for students and families.
  • Clear policies on acceptable use of technology.
  • Encouraging an open dialogue among students, staff, and families about internet safety.

How You Can Help at Home

Your involvement is vital. Here are some ways to support your child:

  • Talk with your children about what they do online and encourage them to share any concerns.
  • Set clear rules about device use, screen time, and appropriate online behaviour.
  • Use parental controls and privacy settings on devices and apps.
  • Visit reputable websites together to learn about cyber safety.

Together, by fostering awareness and positive habits, we can help our students enjoy the benefits of technology while staying safe.

Thank you for your continued support.

Warm regards,

Mrs Dianne Donatiello
