Exam Season: Learning, Feedback and Gratitude

As we move into the weeks of examinations and assessment across the College, I want to wish every student the very best as they prepare, revise, reflect and put their learning into practice.

For our Year 12 students, trial examinations have commenced this week - an important opportunity to experience the demands of external examinations and to identify the areas where further growth is possible. Over the next fortnight, students across Years 7-11 will also enter their examination periods. These moments can bring a mixture of anticipation, nerves and excitement, but they are also an important part of the learning journey.

Examinations are not simply about the result at the end. They provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate what they know, apply their understanding and, importantly, receive feedback that can help them take their next steps as learners.

This is where I want to acknowledge the tremendous work of our teachers and Teacher Aides. Long before students sit in an examination room, there has been significant thought, preparation, and care behind the scenes. Teachers have been revisiting key concepts, identifying areas of need, developing revision strategies, providing practice opportunities, and giving students feedback to help them improve. Our Teacher Aides have also played an important role in supporting students to access their learning, build confidence and prepare in ways that meet their individual needs.

I encourage our students to recognise this support and to practise gratitude for the teaching and learning around them. When a teacher provides feedback, when someone takes the time to explain something again, when a Teacher Aide helps a student find a strategy that works - these are acts of investment in a young person's growth.

Feedback is a gift, even when it is difficult to hear. It tells us where we are now and, more importantly, what we can do next. The most successful learners are not those who never make mistakes; they are those who are willing to learn from them.

So, to all our students: prepare well, give your best effort, ask for help when you need it and be open to the feedback you receive. And remember to say thank you to the people who are helping you along the way.

To our teachers and Teacher Aides, thank you for the expertise, patience, encouragement and care you continue to give our students. Your work matters, and it is making a difference.
