SSV Greater Dandenong Division Primary schools Swimming Trials

Last week 21 students took part in the Divisional Swimming trials at Noble Park Aquatic Centre.  All students competed really well showing fantastic Resilience and Responsibility during and after their races.  Lots of students came away with a ribbon which shows how much hard work they have done to get here.  Well done to everyone that took part.

Swimming Program and Swimming Carnival

The whole school swimming program starts next week.  This is compulsory,  ALL chidren in Australia must take part in their schools swimming program.  The children learn so much by participating in programs like this.  Not only the importance of being able to swim, but the social and emotional skills learnt by going on a bus, going to another institution for lessons, organisational skills of getting uniform and equipment needed, getting changed, etc as well as the fun the children have in the pool.  But the main reason is for every child to be able to swim well enough to be able to save their own life if needed. Here are some frightening facts from Life Saving Victoria of drownings which occured in Victoria last year and the worrying percentage of drowings which are getting worse.
