Term 2 Update

Term 2 is progressing well, and it has been wonderful to see students settled back into routines and engaging positively in their learning. Classrooms across the school have been busy with a range of hands-on and meaningful learning experiences, and it has been fantastic to see students building their skills and confidence each day.

We are also looking forward to a busy and exciting week ahead with Education Week celebrations and upcoming Student Support Group (SSG) meetings. SSG meetings provide a valuable opportunity for families and staff to come together to discuss student progress, celebrate achievements and plan for continued success.

As part of Education Week, we warmly encourage families to join us for our open sessions throughout the week:

Wednesday 20/5, 1:30pm–3:00pm – The benefits of AAC (guest speaker, Helen Tainsh)
Thursday 21/5, 2:00pm–3:00pm – Primary parent participation session - Bringing ilteracy and sensory together
Friday 22/5, 2:00pm–3:00pm – Secondary and Senior Secondary parent participation session - Social skills through sports

Celebrating Education Support Day

Today we proudly recognise and celebrate Education Support (ES) Day, an opportunity to acknowledge the incredible contribution our Education Support staff make to our school every single day.

Our ES staff play a vital role in supporting students to learn, grow and thrive. They build strong relationships with students, provide personalised support in classrooms, assist with communication and wellbeing needs, and help create safe, engaging learning environments where every student can succeed.

Beyond the classroom, our ES staff contribute in countless ways, supporting programs, preparing learning resources, assisting with personal care needs, helping with excursions and camps, and responding with flexibility to whatever each day may bring. Their patience, compassion, professionalism and commitment are deeply valued by staff, students and families alike.

In a specialist school setting, their work is both complex and incredibly important. They celebrate student achievements, provide reassurance during challenging moments, and consistently go above and beyond to support our school community.

On ES Day, we extend our sincere thanks to all of our Education Support staff for the dedication, care and positivity they bring to their roles. Our school is a better place because of the work our ES staff do, and we are grateful for the difference they make in the lives of our students every day.

Home School Communication Review

Today we commenced our Home-School Communication Review process, bringing together staff and parent representatives to reflect on our current practices and identify opportunities for improvement. We thank parents Cindy, Debbie, Angela, Renee and Esther for their input.

Strong communication between home and school is essential in building positive partnerships that support student learning and wellbeing. This review provides an opportunity to examine what is currently working well, consider feedback from families and staff, and explore ways we can make communication more effective, consistent and meaningful for everyone.

During our first meeting, the group focused on mapping our current communication practices, including the many ways information is shared between school and families and identifying areas where improvements could be made. This included discussing what families value most in communication, where there may be gaps, and how we can continue to strengthen our partnerships.

We appreciate the time and valuable input from parents and staff involved in this process and look forward to continuing this important work over the coming weeks. Our shared goal is to ensure our communication practices continue to meet the needs of our school community and support positive outcomes for all students.

Student Kitchen

We’re excited to share that our new student kitchen is nearly ready for use, and we look forward to students accessing this fantastic new learning space very soon. Our maintenance man Al has done a fantastic job in professionally renovating this space.

Brooke (OT) and Carol (Teacher) have been working collaboratively to develop engaging lessons that will support students to build fine motor skills and participate in meaningful applied learning experiences. These activities will provide students with opportunities to develop independence, follow routines, and practise important fine motor skills in an authentic kitchen setting.

Students of all ages across the school will begin accessing the kitchen space from Week 6 this term, and we are excited to see them engaging in these new learning opportunities.

We look forward to sharing more updates as students begin using the space.

A Friendly Reminder – Spare Clothing

From time to time, students may need to change clothes during the school day due to accidents, messy play, water activities, or unexpected spills. When this happens, we provide students with spare clothing from our school supplies so they can remain comfortable throughout the day.

We kindly ask families to please return any borrowed clothing to school as soon as possible after it has been washed. Having these items returned promptly helps ensure we have enough spare clothing available for other students when needed.

If your child regularly requires clothing changes, we encourage families to keep a spare set of clothes in their child’s school bag.
