District School Cross Country

On Monday the 11th May, lots of children from Years 3 to 6 travelled to the district cross country at Bald Hill Park. After we were settled into our assigned area, the nervous feeling started to sink in and the races were soon approaching. We started stretching, practicing and working on the pace that would be crucial in our races.
The first run of the day was the 12 year old girls at 10:00, then 12 boys at 10:20. Afterwards were the 11 girls and boys then the 9/10's.
As I was 12 years, I was up to do the run first which was somewhat of a relief, as the weather was not as hot as it would be later on. The race began and I started off a bit reluctantly and, slowly but steadily, built my pace as I got used to the run. The whole thing took around 20 or so minutes. The finish line came into view, and a feeling of relief and excitement washed over me as I ran toward it. I came 22nd, so I didn't get through to division, but I was overall proud of myself as I had made a huge improvement from my last cross country. - Lauren
My run was the 2nd run of the day and the 12 year old boys overall ran 3km. It was a bit tiring but at the same time it was thrilling. There were some segments of the race when I was exhausted but as soon as I saw the finish line, I sprinted to ensure the end of my run, then I collapsed to the floor. It was scorching hot but the whole day was amazing. - Jayden
I was in the 11 girls category and was also running 3km. The butterflies in my tummy had built up immensely and the starting line was bursting with girls ready to run. I had lost all my fears when the simple word "GO!” had been yelled. I started off trying to stay in the top 12 with all of the other girls which meant a strong, fast start. The time that it took to get to the end was excruciating and the distance to run was all around the twisty, turny park. Finally, the finish line was in sight and my confidence to finish this was growing. I sprinted as fast as I could and made it! I received my place and came 13th. One place away from what I had to come to make it. Feelings of pride overwhelmed me, helping me to look at my race on the bright side. - Karla
Congratulations to Ilya who came 3rd in the 9/10 girls and Ante who came 7th in the 9/10 boys. Both are off to represent our school in Division Cross Country in June.
On behalf of all the students in cross country, we would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Tobin, and all of the contributing staff and parents who helped with the setup and organization of cross country. We fully appreciate your assistance in making this possible for us.
Thank you!
Lauren, Jayden and Karla
