Year 3

We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

In Reading, we are having a blast reading The Wild Robot! We are all enjoying the text so much! We’re sure you have heard of the movie, we will be watching the movie when we have finished reading and studying the book.

In Math, we are learning multiplication and division. We are currently learning short division which can be hard. We have finished learning about 2D and 3D shapes are now also looking about location and location words while looking at maps.

In SAKG we are learning different knife techniques such as rock and chop, and claw and bridge. Rock and chop is for leafy plants like spinach. Bridge and claw are used for carrots, potatoes and lots more. In gardening, we are learning to take care of plants such as cauliflower, lettuce.

Bunnings come out to help us plant our own pot plants called Pansies. And the best part is we got to take them home and keep them!

We are also having lots of fun in Humanities! We are making up our own countries. Our countries have 3 climate zone and we make up or choose animals to live in each climate zone.

We had to state their name, climate zone, diet and home the animal survives in the area it lives in.

It has been a busy term 3 and we are all looking forward to the holidays before starting our final term.

Year 4

''In year 4, kindness is our jam!''

Term 3 has been one of the most exciting terms this year so far!

In Reading we have just finished a text study on the text Leo and Ralph. We thoroughly enjoyed the book and gained a deep understanding of it after using a wide range of reading strategies such as analysing and critiquing, making connections, visualising, inferring and having a big focus non the vocabulary used, in particular we looked at the descriptive language in the text. We are now exploring explanation texts and looking at the process of how something works or why something occurs.

In our writing unit we have just finished publishing our very own narratives with a big focus on ensuring we are using a wide range of vocabulary to make our writing more interesting to the reader. We developed our characters and setting in detail and made sure we started our stories in an interesting way to hook the reader. For example, some of would start at the action in the story, use humour or get the reader curious by making them wonder what will happen next. We have now moved on to writing explanation texts by giving the reader information on our chosen natural disaster and how they occur.

Our Maths unit involved the students solving various multiplication and division problems in many ways. We have learnt multiple ways of solving problems so we can use the most efficient way for ourselves. Some of us may use an array or groups, some of us may use vertical algorithm and we have also gained an understanding about the link between multiplication and division. In our other maths unit, we have been exploring shape and location by looking at 3D shape features, composite shapes and Symmetry. We then learnt how to use a compass rose to read and interpret grid references on a map too!

In science we are studying biological science with a focus on life cycles of plants and conducting experiments and growing grass to watch the life cycle process. The year 4’s also thoroughly enjoyed having our parents visit and help us out in making 3D life cycles for science week

In humanities we have been focusing on continents of the world and finding out about different areas and their climates and native animals. We have also then used our new knowledge to plot our very own new country on a map and give it its very own name, climate and landmarks.

In our health and Respectful relationships unit we have been learning about how to stay safe in different environments and situations with a heavy focus on following rues in the community at school and other areas of the community. This linked well with the RR unit which was heavily focused on the feeling of stress and how to cope in positive ways when bad and stressful situations occur but also how to provide support for others in those situations.

Most of all let’s not forget about our amazing first camp to Goulbourn Valley Camp

The students had a blast at Camp! We did so many fun, challenging and team building tasks. We climbed a vertical wall, did archery, built survival huts, went on the highest giant swing, the zipline and many more. We also had a movie night, a talent show and even our very own disco disco!!!!!!!!! Let’s not forget about how good the food was, Yummmmmmm!

Year 5

Reading: The Year 5 students have been engaging in a text study about the book Black Cockatoo by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler. They have been focusing on developing their reading comprehension skills, including making inferences and summarising information, while focusing on key skills such as identifying themes, analysing characters, inferring meaning, and responding thoughtfully to the text. An important part of this study is understanding that the story is told through an Aboriginal perspective, which reflects Aboriginal culture, values, and ways of connecting to the world.

Writing: Students have been learning to write expository texts on the topic of natural disasters. They have been focusing on researching and paraphrasing information, clearly explaining ideas, structuring their writing effectively, and using technical vocabulary to inform and engage their readers. At the moment, students are completing their final drafts and will soon begin publishing their pieces. They are very excited to showcase their hard work and share their knowledge with others.

Maths: In Maths, students have been developing their understanding of decimals. They have been practising adding, subtracting, ordering, and comparing decimals, as well as applying their knowledge to real-life problems. They have also been enjoying their work on space and transformations, exploring how shapes can be flipped, rotated, and translated. Building on this, students are now investigating grids and coordinates, learning how to plot points and describe positions, which connects both their geometry and problem-solving skills.

Science: This Term, students are investigating the topic of light. They are learning how light travels, how we see, and exploring different sources of light. Students are encouraged to observe and experiment with reflections and shadows to deepen their understanding.

Health: In Health, students have been exploring the importance of healthy relationships and how they affect wellbeing. They’ve discussed how friendships and family connections can change, the impact of emotions on decision-making, and strategies for building respectful, supportive friendships

Humanities: In Humanities, students are exploring geography through the lens of natural disasters. They are learning why events like earthquakes, floods, cyclones or tsunamis occur, how they impact communities, and the ways people prepare for, respond to, and recover from these challenges.

We are so happy with our learning this Term and can't wait for holidays!

Year 6

"In Year 6 we are cool because we thrive at school."

This newsletter was written by Marley, Amy and Charlie K from 6D.

In math's we have been learning about fractions and locations and how we are able to use Cartesian planes and form different shapes using the coordinates and adding fractions with the lowest common denominators and using the 4 steps to be able to solve the problem.

In English we have been reading the book ‘Then’. There has been lots going on throughout the book it has been about WW2 where the Nazis have invaded the Jews, and we have had many tasks on our book. Also, in writing we have been focusing on expository writing which contains description, comparison, cause and effect and many more types of paragraphs.

In Humanities we have had such a fun time creating our dioramas, the year fives and sixes have been participating in our big project with natural disasters like cyclones, volcanos and so many other disasters. We’ve been working so hard to succeed in our projects.

In drama we are making a music video for year 6 graduation for family to watch we are enjoying making the lyrics, songs and even costumes and we have also played such fun games like the meow meow song where you must meow song lyrics.

RUOK Day was such a fun day, we participated in lots of things like bracelet making, temporary tattoos, nail polish and even hair chalk, all our teachers spent so much time making RUOK day the best!

Inter school sports was one of our favorite things this term there was basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis and cricket which all grade 6’s trained really well, and we all showed resilience during the time. The basketball team even came second but all sports did amazing!

This week on Wednesday the 17th of September the grade 6’s are going to camp. We are all so excited, we’re going to Phillip island resort and all of us are waiting for an unknown adventure. We can’t wait!

This term we have had prep buddies and SMP which all of us have had a great time we have even made pet rocks and built up relationships with our buddies we’ve played fun games and have read stories to our buddies!
