3-4 S.A.K.G

This term has been busy!

Jess from Western Health visited Brookside SAKG to teach students about the importance of “Eating a Rainbow” of different colour food for good health. Many students enjoyed tasting new fruit and vegetable for the first time at the incursion. Students learnt that they develop new taste buds every ten days and are encouraged to re-try new food frequently.

Last week, Casey from Bunnings Caroline Springs taught students how to plant a flower seedling. They all took a potted pansy home to nurture and observe growth. As always, we love having a strong connection with Bunnings who generously donated all the supplies for our planting workshop.

In the garden, our chickens have started laying eggs. Although the eggs are small, the supply is consistent. Students have been enjoying the homegrown produce being used in the cooking sessions. Whilst students are learning about knife skills and safety, they are also experiencing freshly harvested flavours in soup and pizza.

On a final note- an opportunity presented for Ms. Crossman to continue developing her kitchen garden skills at St Albans Meadows at the start of Term 4.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the volunteers who assisted in SAKG. I have loved working with everyone.

Take care over the break!
