Sport

Last Friday, our Grade 5 and 6 students competed in the Winter Round Robin competition. Students participated in Netball, AFL, Teeball and Soccer against a range of local schools. Throughout the term, students have worked hard training each Friday during Grade 5/6 sport sessions in preparation for the event.
All students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating respect towards their opponents, teammates and themselves throughout the day. Congratulations to our AFL 9s A, Teeball A and Teeball Girls teams, who have progressed to the Division stage later in the year.
A huge thank you to the teachers and parents who helped coach, encourage, train and organise our teams.
Hoop Time
Hi Old Orchard, we are going to tell you about Hoop Time.
First, the girls won two games out of five and they sadly lost by one point in one game. Thank-you to Sandy (Jen Males’ mum) and Emma (Jen’s student teacher). The boys won four games and went to the finals. First game the boys won by 25 + points. The grand final was against Whitehorse Primary and the boys won by six points. Thanks to Jen and Jordan (the parent of Lenny Wise) and a big thank-you to James for organising everything.

Last week, we were fortunate to welcome Commonwealth Games gold medallist Tinka Easton to our school. Tinka competes in Judo and is a current Victorian Institute of Sport athlete.
Tinka spoke to our Sports Academy students about a range of topics, including how Judo has provided opportunities to travel the world and compete at the highest level. She also shared insights into the mindset required to overcome injuries and setbacks throughout her sporting journey.
It was inspiring to hear Tinka speak about resilience and perseverance in sport, particularly as resilience has been a key focus in our Sports Academy program this term. Students gained valuable lessons about overcoming adversity and the importance of striving to become better athletes and people.
