Welcome

Wawa, Wominjika.
Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us. We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.
Old Orchard Primary School Open Evening
Next Thursday 28th May, we will be opening up our doors from 5:00pm - 7:00pm to celebrate Education Week. Our theme this year is ‘Showcasing our School’. We will have a range of activities for students to engage in as well as a sausage sizzle, musical performances and book fair.
We can’t wait to see you and celebrate our wonderful school.
Scholastic Book Fair
Ruth and Jennifer have been busy preparing for the Scholastic Book Fair this week. The library will be open to families before and after school from Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th May, as well as during the Open Evening. This is a great opportunity to support our school through this fundraiser and to explore a great range of children’s literature.
2027 Prep Enrolments
Last weekend, we welcomed prospective families to an Information Session and sausage sizzle. Thank you to our parent volunteers, Ronald Leung, Naomi Trent, and Aman and Timothy Wood, who were on hand to answer questions about our school community and cook up the sausages.
This week, we also welcomed kindergarten students from Nino Early Learning Centre for a special story time session. Thank you to Ruth, who helped facilitate the session in our school library.
Online enrolments for Prep 2027 are now open. Applications are due by Friday, 31 July 2026. Visit our website for more information.
Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 campers (including Duncan) are having a wonderful time at Waratah Beach Camp. They are due to arrive home this afternoon after three full days of adventure. I am sure we will welcome back some very tired students and staff on Friday, but with many stories to share.
Pie Drive
Thank you to all our families (and staff!) who ordered pies for our fundraiser. Pies will be delivered to school on Thursday 4th June.
Year 3 /4 Hooptime
On Tuesday we had two teams attend the first round of the year 3 / 4 Hooptime competition. Congratulations to both teams who tried their hardest and represented Old Orchard so well. We are thrilled that our boys team won the grand final on the day and will now progress to the next round. Thank you to Jordan Wise, Jen Males and Sandra Males for attending.
Main Entrance Update
Progress has been steady on the front entrance of the school. This week, the automatic door was installed, and we are close to pouring the concrete for the ramp. We are looking forward to the completion of this project and reopening our front entrance.
In the meantime, we remind parents and carers to use the steps near the sandpit to enter and exit the main building, rather than using the corridor through the student toilets.
Homework Club
Due to Education Week, Homework Club will not run next Tuesday after school.
