9Life Community Art

9 Life Community Arts update for the Heathmont Gazette.
The 9 Life Community Arts team went on an excursion to explore the street art of Melbourne. When we exited the station, we were greeted by the beaming sun, after this welcoming, we walked to the famous Hosier Laneway known for its extravagant bursts of colour, from the minds of many talented artists. Crowds poured into the lane to admire these works.
We explored the narrow colourful streets of the city. Each of us were given a colour to take pictures of during our journey. For lunch we decided to part ways and explore the city in duos, we ended up eating sushi. After lunch we explored the NGV, our group discovered many unique and interesting art pieces. Like the stone ornaments and the 3D art.
This excursion allowed us to learn about how to be more independent, and to appreciate the expressions people have with many different interpretations. This became an assessment where we selected our favourite photos to write a bit about them and how our colour is used effectively.

In community arts last term we explored revamping and creating art representing our school. The Hollows painting was suggested and our wonderful year 9’s welcomed giving it a makeover. We wanted to incorporate the eyes to represent Fred Hollows journey but unfortunately the eyes didn’t come out as planned, so, we changed the idea to have sugar gliders incorporated and Australian manna gumtrees surrounding the words. These flora and Fauna were chosen to represent Hollows House and to align with Simone Thompson’s art done in 2024. Sahara Fuller was our team leader for this project and painted the sugar gliders by hand. Everyone helped with the background and painting the letters and it was ultimately a team effort.
