Reflection

This Sunday, May 24th, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Pentecost. Often referred to as the "birthday of the Church," Pentecost marks the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and Mary, who were gathered together in the Upper Room. Before this moment, the Apostles were hiding in fear, but the Holy Spirit filled them with the courage, wisdom, and strength needed to step outside and share the Gospel with the world. It is a beautiful reminder for our own school community that the Holy Spirit is always with us, guiding and strengthening us in our daily lives.

You might also know that May 24th is traditionally a very significant date for another reason: it is the Feast of Mary, Help of Christians. However, because Pentecost is one of the most important Sundays in the Church's liturgical calendar, the feast day for Mary, Help of Christians has been transferred this year to Monday, May 25th.

Under the title of "Help of Christians," Mary holds a very special place in our local Church because she is the official Patroness of Australia. In 1844, Mary was chosen as the patroness of our nation, becoming a figure of guidance and protection for the early pioneers and the growing Catholic community facing the harsh realities of the Australian outback. She is a symbol of maternal care and a reminder that we can always turn to her for help during difficult times.

As we celebrate the fiery joy of Pentecost this Sunday and honour our nation's Patroness on Monday, let us pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide our St Patrick's community, and that Mary, Help of Christians, watches over all of our families.

Prayer

Dear God,

On this feast of Pentecost,

we thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Just as the Spirit gave the Apostles the courage to share your love,

give us the courage to be kind, brave, and good friends to one another.

Help our minds to grow in wisdom

and keep our school community safe.

Holy Spirit, be our guide today and always.

Amen.

First Holy Communion

Angus, Campbell, Freddie, Jack and Thibaud had just begun their preparations to partake in the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time on Sunday, June 7th, at St Patrick's Church. As these young individuals begin their exploration of the teachings and sacrifice of Jesus Christ through this sacred ritual, they have our thoughts and prayers.

Year 6 Practise Religious Education Assessment

A key date for our Year 6 students is fast approaching as they prepare to undertake their practice Religious Education assessment online on Monday 1st June. This online assessment provides a valuable opportunity for students to become familiar with the digital format and the types of questions they will encounter with the actual Year 6 Religious Education Assessment that will be conducted in Term 3.
