The Anxious Generation

Jonathan David Haidt is an American social psychologist and author of the 2024 book "The Anxious Generation."  

He has spoken widely about his research into the dangers of a phone-based childhood and social media.  The videos below are a series of excerpts from longer interviews he has done.  The final video is a more complete discussion.

Parents, please consider very carefully whether you should allow your child to have a smartphone and access to social media.   Perhaps the greatest gift you could give them is freedom from the grip of a phone, even if your child doesn't see it that way now.  

From December 10, children under the age of 16 will not be able to legally access social media.  Many young people have said they will defy the new law and use a workaround to gain access.  We encourage parents to stand firm and not allow this to happen — not just because it will be against the law, but for the good of their children.
