Life in the LRC

On Wednesday, September 9th, our Library Assistants and Captains took a trip to the State Library of Victoria.

This is the second of our now annual city excursions, it’s a wonderful way to connect with our incredibly passionate students and an opportunity for the students to use their voice and agency – selecting books themselves for our library collection.

Our day was filled with books, fun and laughter, learning and donuts! What better way to spend a day!

Below you will find an article by Lucien D, and a brief word from Mariana E, both of whom are Heathmont College library captains.

I am incredibly proud of the way the students represented our school, and I am very grateful for the assistance they provide each day at school.

It simply such a privilege to get together with some of my favourite people and go learn about the history of the state library and chose a book for our own library. History, books and friends, three of my very favourite things. We had a lovely time walking around the city, exploring the library, eating food, buying books. We may or may not have bought donuts (We did need some fuel to learn). And this time we got our own tour guide (Sam) of the library, compared to last year, everything was a lot more put together. Yes, I am absolutely excited for next year and having even more people coming with us.

Another Library Captain, Lucien D-M has put together his report of the State Library Tour in his own unique way- using his typewriter!

CBCA Book Review of the Month

‘Tenderly, I am Devoured’ is a book by author Lyndall Clipstone.

A problematic gothic romantasy book to be specific. It’s all washed up in past and present chapters, a magical salt god, lots and lots of kissing, marriage, death, betrayal and wishful thinking. All, shall we say, risqué topics, our main character, Lacrimosa (Lark) must navigate. She and her brothers find themselves in debt to Marcus Felimaths, because of their dead parents. But Alistair and Camille, Marcus’ children, seem to have taken an interest in Lark. (Enemies to Lovers!) A couple of make out sessions later she gets into a twisted mess of history, marriage, betrayal and queerness. Lovers of Wuthering Heights, Saltburn and Queer Romance with be mesmerised by this book, but unfortunately, I would not read it again. Recommended for 14+
