Term 3 has started with a positive vibe at Croydon SDS. Our students and staff are enjoying being back into their school routine. We have commenced the swimming program; while we have had some set-backs with the pool operations, classes are slowly getting in and using the new pool. Over the break, the builders completed the final phase of the stage one building project with the staffroom.
New staffroom furniture is arriving next Monday ready for our staff to start using this open, modern and relaxing space. We have commenced planning for a student kitchen in the old staffroom space. New student friendly, café style furniture has been ordered for this space. We will begin planning for how students across each section can engage and learn in this space.
This week we've have The School Photographers onsite over three days taking individual, class group and other small group photos. Students managed exceptionally well with this new experience embracing the opportunity to smile in front of the camera. The photographers worked well with our students, they were calm, flexible and patient to allow for a few attempts to capture photos. We look forward to seeing these photos in the coming weeks.
We have changed the name of our Transition section to Senior Secondary to better reflect the years of schooling for our students in their final three years of school. Now that our students are enrolled in the Victorian Certificate Pathways (VPC), the name, 'Senior Secondary' also aligns closely with their program and is more consistent naming with local secondary schools offering the VPC.
I would like to remind you that next Wednesday, (6th August) we have two special celebrations to officially open our new building. In the morning, a local MP will visit for a school tour and special whole school assembly lead by our student leaders to cut the red ribbon and unveil a plaque to commemorate the opening.
From 2-4pm the wider school community and past Croydon SDS families, students and staff are invited to attend an opening which will include student led tours and an afternoon tea to celebrate our modern and fit for purpose new office, warm water pool, library, gym, staffroom and a classroom. Please feel free to share this invitation with any past Croydon SDS families you may see.
Preparation has commenced for our Showcase and Shine and Christmas raffle. It's hard to believe we are planning for December, but the school year is going quickly!
Leanne is once again organising many hampers for our annual community Christmas raffle fundraiser. We are calling for donations of any new goods appropriate for a family hamper, (eg. toys, books, pamper packs/items, gourmet food items, gift vouchers). If you, a family member or friend has anything that you would like to donate for the hamper, please bring this along to the front office. We are collecting items throughout this term.
We are now planning for 2026, including creating sections and class groups. If your family are planning any changes for 2026 that may impact on school, (eg. change of address or school) please let us know as soon as possible to assist us with our planning.
