From the Classroom - S2 (Lauren)

As we near the end of Term, S2 have continued to engage in their learning and have enjoyed working together in all subject and specialist areas.

In Reading, our class novel, The Day They Stormed Eureka, has deepened their understanding of the Australian Gold Rush and the events of the Eureka Stockade. Through class discussions and comprehension activities, students have explored key historical events, characters, and themes and move onto responding to the text in a creative way such as developing a new ending, or movie poster.

In Writing, students are learning to write Historical Information Reports about the Gold Rush. They are learning how historians write, how to paraphrase and research historical facts prior to drafting their reports which will include organising information into paragraphs, using appropriate headings, and incorporating technical vocabulary. Our visit to Sovereign Hill has supported their understanding of a variety of topics that they will be able to incorporate into their Information Reports.

In Mathematics, students have been learning about Cartesian planes. They have been identifying and plotting coordinates, describing the location of points using ordered pairs, and applying their understanding of grids and coordinates to solve problems. The game Battleship has been a favourite as students are using the information they have learnt about coordinates to play a fun game.
