As we move through the beauty and renewal of spring, our community has much to celebrate. The warmer days, blossoming gardens and longer hours of sunlight remind us of God's gift of new life and hope. Spring encourages us to pause and appreciate the growth that occurs not only in nature but also within our students as they embrace new challenges, opportunities and experiences.

One of the highlights of the past fortnight was our Year 9 Camp, which provided students with an invaluable opportunity to strengthen friendships, develop resilience, challenge themselves and create lasting memories. Experiences such as camp play a vital role in building a strong sense of belonging and community, and it was wonderful to see our students embracing every activity with enthusiasm and positivity.

A heartfelt thank you must go to Mr Kris Mannix for his exceptional organisation and leadership in planning and coordinating the camp. The success of such a large undertaking requires countless hours of preparation, attention to detail and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing. We are deeply grateful for his efforts in delivering an experience that was both enjoyable and enriching for all involved.

I would also like to acknowledge the dedicated staff who generously gave their time to attend the camp. Their willingness to step away from their families, support students beyond the classroom and contribute so positively to the camp experience is greatly appreciated. The strong relationships that are built through these experiences are an important part of what makes our school community so special.

Another significant event this week was our formal assembly, where students applying for the role of 2027 School Captain addressed the entire St Mary MacKillop College community. Public speaking in front of a large audience requires courage, preparation and confidence, and each candidate should be proud of the way they presented themselves and their vision for student leadership.

Congratulations to the following students on their excellent speeches:

  • Catherine
  • Minke
  • Lily
  • Harper
  • Will

Each student demonstrated leadership potential, integrity and a genuine desire to serve our College community. We thank them for the example they have set and wish them every success as the selection process continues.

I would also like to encourage all students considering leadership opportunities to submit applications for House Captain and Committee Captain positions. These roles provide wonderful opportunities to make a positive contribution to College life, develop leadership

skills and strengthen our community. Applications close soon, and I encourage students not to miss this chance to become involved and make a difference.

As a College inspired by the example of Saint Mary MacKillop, we are reminded of her famous words: "Never see a need without doing something about it." Mary MacKillop's life was characterised by service, courage and faith in God, and these qualities continue to inspire us today. In the same way, Jesus calls each of us to use our gifts in service of others, to lead with humility and compassion, and to be people who bring hope and encouragement to those around us.

May this season of spring continue to remind us of God's presence in our lives and the many opportunities we have to grow, flourish and serve others within our College community.
